Foundation

The Foundation was an academic organization founded by Dr. Hari Seldon . He started the group due to his work in psychohistory.
With his predictive model showing that the Empire would fall within five centuries, and the following darkness could last 30,000 years, Dr. Seldon began the Foundation.
The original members were told that the Foundation would be a galactic repository of all knowledge in the known Empire, or at least as much as they humanly gather before the downfall of the Empire.
However, we later learn, the actual purpose of the Foundation was not to cultivate knowledge, but to cultivate people. A people that would be revolutionaries, a way to steer the downfall, limit it's damage, and then bring future societies out of darkness.
