Session 006: Trial of the Giant Dragon
General Summary
The North Wind finally learn about the Trial about to take place as the city gathers at the base of the Hooked Tower. Oke Thonemany announces the Trial of the Giant Dragon, a grand tourney that is to play out over the next five days, until only three of the 64 parties are left standing. An informal festival starts around the base of the tower, some of the party partaking while others retire early. They all take note of the fierce betting going on, run by Bertrand the Bookie, and the high number of people putting money on the Ringed Roses to win all five rounds. Mohr spots Duan nearby and watches as he sends a message to Bertrand. Zenith casts Detect Thoughts and is able to glean that Duan is keeping track of quite a few events, one being a check in on Kima, Moa, and Onoana. The group later learn that this is the trio that will be facing the Ringed Roses in the first round.
The next day brings the Wind through the doors of the Hooked Tower, walking through to a patch of desert seemingly miles out from the city. A full on marketplace is set up around the tourney board and large arenas ring the area. The group catches a couple matches before stepping into the arena themselves, taking the time to watch the Grit and the Grind trounce their inexperienced opponents as well as a full out free-for-all between two large groups.
When their turn comes, the North Wind admirably acquit themselves against the Crazy Weasels, even going so far as to know the rules better than the referee herself. There are some tricks from the Weasels, but the group gets through unscathed.
The day ends with the crowd gathering for the most anticipated match of the day. The arena fills with people waiting to watch the Ringed Roses win.
