Session 008: Trick or Trick
General Summary
The North Wind continued the third match of the trial, facing off against the Trick of the Eyes. The rival pair consistently took actions beyond the bounds of their legal moves, but escaped notice by the referee. The North Wind’s attempts at retaliation were not quite so under the radar, but they managed to convince the official that everything was on the up and up. By turning the same tricks back on the Trick, the North Wind managed to win their third match.
They checked out the tourney board afterwards and saw that an announcement had been posted about a rematch between The Ringed Roses and Kima, Moa, and Onoana due to evidence of interference in the initial match. It was to be held before the rest of the games in the morning so that the winner could compete at the end of the day.
While in the marketplace, Duan the Raywalker approached, seemingly making small talk. He ominously stated that broken promises are prone to coming back around.
Later that night, back at the Inn, Swallow went missing. Again. Talasea ran into the same older woman he apparently spoke to last time this happened. The woman told him that she saw Duan approach Swallow, speak to him for a bit, then walk off with him. She then advised him to be careful when dealing with Raywalker generals.
The crew went looking for Swallow, sending Aphid and Zenith’s familiar, ???, off on a scouting mission with Aphid wildshaped into a mouse form and ??? pretending to be chasing him. With the help of a family of moles, they managed to find their way through the mole tunnels and into a far larger space. They saw a cavernous space, faint markings on the walls and the ends curving out of sight. They found Swallow in a cell next to at least two other occupants.
Upon Aphid’s return, a real plan began to form. They would commence in the morning, Zenith, Jack, and Aphid going to rescue Swallow while Talasea and Mohr went to the arena grounds to find and possibly distract or mislead Duan. The plan went as expected to begin with. Talasea successfully found Duan and started a conversation, demanding to know what he wanted while Mohr watched from a distance. Zenith magicked himself into Duan and successfully magicked his way into the inner tunnels. Aphid made his way back through the mole tunnels (after some initial objections from the moles at the sight of a wildshape cat) to deliver a lockpick set to Swallow.
Then, Duan proposed that Swallow would be returned if the North Wind accepted a fixed win and came in second in the final. And indicated that he saw Mohr. And sauntered off to whisper in the ear of someone at a table, who got up and started towards the exit of the Trial grounds. And Talasea and Mohr followed. Then, Zenith and Jack arrived, disguised and invisible, to find Swallow out of his cell with two knocked out guards. Then, Aphid returned to the entrance of the mole tunnels to wait, as a cat, for the rest to arrive.
All while the Ringed Roses face off against the Trio for the second time….
