Session 038: Beneath the Roses
General Summary
We begin with a brief rewind, the glimpse of green tendrils poking out of the waterfall disappearing for the moment. Talasea has a chance to make nice with Lia and Freyre, stating that they got off on the wrong foot and they are in fact there to save Freyre. They then shout a warning to everyone that Gia and Onoana are up to something at the waterfall.
It is, however, only a brief reprieve.
The moment comes to pass regardless: green tendrils poke out from underneath the waterfall and then continue to reveal creatures made of twisting green-leafed vines with tiny, gnarled faces hidden amongst the stems. They crawl through the water and then up onto rock, a wave of green that continues, relentless.
Talasea charms one creature and attempts to get it to convince its brethren to back down, but the creature doesn't appear to understand his speech. The waves continues and as the creatures reach the party, they tangle and choke each and every living thing they touch.
Talasea, well-traveled as he is, and Aphid, Springish native as he is, recognize the creatures: they are kudzuite. The creatures are whispered of with horror throughout the Spring Kingdom, known for blanketing and choking out living things with terrible speed.
Another wave comes out of the waterfall on the heels of the first.
The party and their new allies manage to take Havo down and begin to slice at the new foes. Freyre briefly goes down as well. Jack is momentarily overtaken by a spell that adorns him with a crown of thorns and causes him to strike out at his allies, but he manages to shake it off.
Zenith calls for everyone to clear the area of the kudzuite as best he can and sends a fireball into the mass of vines. The next wave of creatures crawls over the ashes of their brethren.
The party proceeds under the waterfall to find Gia fumbling with the locks on cages filled to bursting with kudzuite. The cave under the waterfall is lit by glowing mushrooms and extends further than they can see. And it is filled with cages upon cages of kudzuite.
The rest of the party follows underneath the waterfall, Aphid summoning an octopus to guard the exit and ensure that no kudzuite make it past them.
As yet another wave is released from its cage into this cramped underground cave...
