Session 041: Un-TOUR-ward Behavior
General Summary
We begin with The North Wind following Colby as they set out for their tour. Colby shows them the Weave, she and Aphid teaching the non-Springers about the weave-method of farming in which crops and livestock are intermingled and tended in harmony. Along the way they meet Timothy the beekeeper, who shows them his beehives.
Timothy pulls Colby aside and points out a purplish discoloration he noticed on a rosebush (don't tell Roberta that he was checking it out, he was just following a bee). Colby asks the group's opinion to confirm what she fears: the plant is afflicted with sluagh blight, the mysterious plant illness that was just beginning to be whispered of when Aphid left home and has since begun to creep east across the kingdom. Colby speaks to the rosebush, who reports feeling sleepy and unwell, which began with their roots going numb. The group takes a soil sample and discovers tiny purple grubs. Colby speaks to other plants and determines that while few plants have gotten this far, a number of plants are beginning to feel numb in their roots to the west.
The group discusses what could possibly be done to fix the situation, determining that most of their spells are of no use here. Colby asks if the group is headed to the Verdant Quarter, but seems reluctant to discuss it further or wait for a solution from them. Eventually, Colby remembers that other places have experimented with creating trenches and stone barriers to prevent the spread of the disease. Colby determines that she can dig the trenches in a couple days with her own magic, but the party insists on helping. On their way to pick up shovels, they inform other farmers of the issue at hand.
Soon enough, a good portion of the town is working together to dig trenches and save the Weave.
Mayor Butterfeld naturally has a conniption, but is talked off the ledge and goes back to festival planning.
Then Thorn Lukot arrives. And asks for Aphid.
Thorn awkwardly invites Aphid over for dinner. Aphid asks if his friends can come when they're done with the trenches. Thorn runs home to prepare for extra guests. Aphid runs to the inn and cleans up, then heads to Lukot Tailors and Apparel, where Thorn lives above the shop. Mistletoe is waiting outside, and gasps and gapes at the snippets of information Aphid shares about his last few months. Mistletoe gently asks if Aphid has heard from Mossi. Aphid asks to talk about it later. Mistletoe gets pretty distracted when Aphid admits that he doesn't want to be heir.
Inside, Aphid and Thorn talk in between dinner preparations. Thorn expresses his disappointment and concern for Aphid. He also picks up on the fact that Aphid has spilled the beans on the Mouse Secret nearly immediately. He agrees not to tell Grandmother, but suggests that Aphid get it over with. Thorn ends by saying that he is so glad that Aphid is back and that Grandmother will be too.
We end with the North Wind heading towards Lukot Tailors and Apparel, Talasea bringing along the most situationally appropriate gift basket possible.
