Session 047: Heart of the Matter
General Summary
We begin with the North Wind fighting for their lives.
The Sluagh Heart lurches between rifts and assumes its final form, armored by root guardians.
Zenith sleeps, charms, petrifies.
Aphid flies, flees, falls unconscious.
Talasea falls, flies, falls again.
Mohr finally determines what the main ray does when she tries to heal the group and fails.
Mohr falls as she stands over Aphid's body.
Mohr dies.
Mohr sees her god and her family and asks if she was truly so inconsequential in the end.
Jack finishes off the Sluagh heart.
No, the Snowmother says, you touched so many lives.
Talasea calls out to Alban, pleading for help and telling them they've destroyed the heart.
Jack calls out to his patron and asks him to bring Mohr back.
A life for a life, Avarice bargains.
Jack promises to kill a person that Avarice specifies at some point in the future.
Mohr breathes once again.
Jack tells no one of the deal he has made, but Mohr notices the brighter green of his eyes and the way he holds something back.
While they wait for Alban and the druids of the Quarter to arrive, Aphid clambers over to check out the Motherheart. Aphid discovers a symbol that neither he nor Jack, with his magical eyes, can decipher. He casts plantgrowth and as leaves spring up from the bark of the Motherheart, bursting through the carving, the rifts throughout the cavern seal thmselves. Then Aphid steps between the roots and into the light of the Motherheart.
Between one breath and the next, he finds himself standing in the mountains, looking out over the weave of the Spring Kingdom.
The Spring Goddess looks to him, in the guise of a little girl, and tells him he did well.
The Spring Goddess looks to him, in the guise of a giant woman, and asks him to do one more thing for Her.
The Spring Goddess looks to him, in the guise of an old crone, and asks if he will be Her champion even if his family disapproves.
Aphid says yes. And She tells him to prove it.
We end a session filled to bursting with life and death as a serpent of gold and impossible color bows to Aphid and then lunges for him.
