LänanCian
I was invited at first by my partner, Tixian, to the underwater residence of her sibling Cirin. This was an invitation I had to politely decline, Kavenai like myself do not fare well underwater. Our girlfriend Kvirina was more than happy to follow, however, unsurprising as Yecixĩu hail from a watery world with very few landmasses, just like the Ahsi do. I was instead sent to visit with Tixian's relative, whether or not this was her mother or her aunt or if that even matters to the Ahsi I'm not sure, who runs a bakery in the "land capital".
I don't wish to be rude, but I do not understand how the Ahsi do this. LänanCian is a city of caves, or more accurately a city in caves. How is it possible for a species so religiously devoted to the stars, to live in the two places on their planet where it would be impossible to actually see them? Still, I did enjoy my visit, even if I was made anxious by the enclosing stone the entire time. Some of the deeper caves have entire ecosystems all their own, even in the dark plants grow. I could spend years here studying the wonders deep within the caves, but I've been warned against it. Rumors run rampant within the city. They feel like the stories you'd tell a child.
Do not wander too far into the caves, where the paths are no longer marked, or the xisoni will get you. Do not swim alone or the Leviathan will eat you. Do not head into the jungle on the surface or the Makiin will claim your soul.
The warnings do not feel real, but they are. I know this from listening to the Ahsi, unlike some who dismiss the stories as being overly superstitious. In LänanCian, the Ahsi are safe and can thrive, their numbers too great for the predators to destroy them. I was shocked, in honesty, to learn that some Makiin live in the city as well. On a Galactic scale, not a lot is actually known of the Makiin. They are the second sapient species of Cianlis, but they have little desire to leave it.
Demographics
The majority of Ahsi whom live in the city are adults. Most businesses are run within the city and export their goods to the underwater residents of the planet. The city also contains the University, and as such a large population within the city are scholars.
A small percentage of the population of the city is made up of Makiin craftsmen, smiths of various sorts mostly. Skilled in working with the various metals mined by other Makiin in the mountains deep within the jungles or by a subset of Ahsi within the lower caves.
Government
The city is run, primarily by the Council of Community, the leadership of the Ahsi. The Council of Community makes sure all needs (housing, food, water, safety, health, ect) are met, and regulates the barter system which Ahsi use to obtain objects and food types they don't specifically need (super soft blankets, a layer cake, games, ect).
The Ahsi don't have strict laws about what is and is not allowed on most fronts, the people's needs are met which produces a lack of truly desperate people--this keeps the crime rate within Ahsi society nearly nonexistent. It is the job of the Council to make sure it stays that way. The Ahsi don't have a a frame of reference for "war" in their culture, violence on that scale is unimaginable to the peaceful natives of Cianlis. The Council strongly discourages all violent actions on Cianlis proper, however, within LänanCian is the Officer's Academy a school and training compound for the Ahsi Civil Defense Corps .
Members of the ACDC are under strict oversight by the Council of Community and are trained in combat for the civil defense of Ahsi citizens. They are discouraged from taking lives, even those of predators looking to consume Ahsi meat, and are outright banned from using any sort of force to resolve and disputes that might arise among Ahsi, or between Ahsi and their Makiin neighbors. The ACDC patrols the borders of Ahsi and Makiin territory and acts as a first line of defense between the Ahsi and the dangerous creatures that live within the jungle--creatures that prey on Ahsi and Makiin alike.
Architecture
All "buildings" within LänanCian are carved directly into the walls of the caves. The entrances are painted with phosphorescent paints
