The Seekers of Truth
"Our mission is exploration. For that is the true spirit of humanity. For we are the true nature that humans show. Deep within all of us, is an innate desire to explore. Without explorers, without these Seekers of Truth, humanity would never have left its cradle of civilization. We wouldn't have expanded beyond that one fertile valley to become a race that controls an entire planet. We would have never asked, "is there more out there." Without people asking, "is there more", seeking the truth of the answer to that question, humanity would still be stuck on Earth. A single planet, orbiting a single star. We've led Humanity for far longer than any would care to admit. They have called us many things, but we are The Seekers of Truth."
Structure
The Seekers are led overall by a board of individuals known as collectively as "The Truth Tellers", this board is made up of a representative from each department within the Seekers. Not necessarily each Department Head, often it is just a person the Department head elected to represent the department.
The Truth Tellers reside over the entire organization which consists of several departments (such as Space Travel, Astronomy, Economics, Education, Exploration, Government, among others). Each department is run by a Department Head, and usually a couple advisors.
Below the Heads and the advisors are the supervisors, under them are the employees, and below that are the interns.
Public Agenda
To advance humanity through knowledge and exploration. To find answers to life's mysteries.
Assets
The Seekers have the full support of the United Council of Countries both politically and financially, as The Seekers were voted by the UCC to be the best face of Humanity, and the perfect group to represent humanity to the Galactic Community.
As a result, the Seekers never fall short of funding, though gaining the equipment they need can be a bigger issue as some of their departments dabble in experiments that require either "outdated" equipment, or materials that do not "officially" exist. As such, the Seekers often make backroom deals with The Raiders.
The Seekers have a veritable army of connections among the Raiders, Galactic Security Force, and the Galactic Research Foundation. However, they refuse to publicly acknowledge their dealings with the Raiders.
History
No one remembers when the Seekers were first founded. The organization's had so many names over the course of their existence, more so before they were formally acknowledged as being a group.
For thousands of years they explored the Earth, uniting humanity wherever they found them, and doing their best to make sure expansion on Earth did not cause strife or unnecessary violence among Humans.
For a long time they worked mostly from behind the scenes, politically and economically. Controlling trade, destroying paths or building them, causing entire villages to simply disappear from maps to protect them, or killing political leaders that got too warlike.
In the early 2000s, the Seekers were experimenting with interstellar communication devices. Attempting to develop ways of communicating long distances (from Earth to Mars or Venus) in the shortest amount of time possible. They were attempting this to make sure they could communicate with their astronauts on future flights to the other planets. During one of these experiments, an intern named Sage was tasked with looking after the communication device. Sage answered communications that were intercepted by the device, thinking it was one of the other people on the project messing with her (because it was April Fool's Day) and eventually managed to communicate to an Ahsi pilot that she was a Human, from Earth, who was trying to talk to whatever might be alive in the Galaxy.
"Humanity is lonely. Our ships can make it to the Red Planet, we call it Mars. Our probes and drones can make it far far away. We've got Rovers on Mars, and satellites orbiting Jupiter. Can you help us? We want to know what's out there. We want to know that we're not alone."
In the years that followed, The Seekers of Truth were Humanity's eyes, ears, mouth, and arms when it came to dealing with the aliens that had accidentally discovered them. They led Humanity to discovery after discovery, compiling lessons and archives based on the knowledge the aliens were willing to share with us.
In the year 2053, Humanity built their first spacecraft capable of "extra long distance" space flight. It wasn't fancy, but it did the job it needed to do. The aliens had given an ultimatum, if Humanity could prove that it could leave its native space in a craft built by them and for them, then the aliens would allow us to join the greater Galactic Community, with all the access to technology and knowledge that offered.
