The Hearth of the Vindexians
"The fire blazes with a familial warmth everyday. I don't know when we ignited the flame as it has here my whole life. It does feel nice to have it ablaze in my living quarters after having been used to a cold, drab, prison cell. My parents kept this stoked and always cooked meals on it. Though for some reason, they would go out of their way to keep the flame alive. I can recall one particular night in which the fire ceased. My mother and father were wailing all night just trying to rekindle the flame. They always talked about this "Mabel Darling" character, apparently she was a medic in the battlefield. That's impossible, the king forbids women from joining the military. I personally think the old man has Bullet Fever from the bullet wounds he sustained in battle. He says this medic bandaged his wounds so that he wouldn't bleed out and so he survived. Father recalls a bullet racing past her head as she healed his wounds, she was oblivious to what pistols were. I tell you about Mabel because my parents believe the fire keeps her spirit with them in order to pay respects." - Saeculum
History
This ritual of creating a bonfire inside of your house started when Mabel Darling's cooking became famous. Those who admired her created large fires on their hearths so they could cook like her. That intention for good cooking still mostly stays the same, except for a few followers of this ritual. Some of Mabel's patients from the border set up a fire in her honor, and to cook.
Execution
Everyone makes the fire in their own way but there are some common decorations for the hearth. Flowers, garlic, rocks are usually found at the fire's base. Depending on where you live different rocks may be used to prevent the fire from spreading.
