The Greatox
The Staple Food For Any Meat Eater
The Greatox is a giant, fluffy mammal, somewhat resembling the average cow. Due to their gargantuan size, they have no natural predators, and once used this privilege to great extent, grazing the entirety of the northern areas of Fraeia. Entire herds could turn a bountiful meadow into a barren land more resembling tundra.
Their excellent capabilities in fattening up made them the prime candidates for early Lupan settlement and agriculture. Big enough to pull heavy farm equipment or wagons, hide thick enough to keep an ice elemental warm, and meat fatty enough to make any carnivore salivate. It's earned its place in Lupan food culture, and changed many of the race of omnivores into preference carnivores.
Its popularity among Lupans would cause demand for the delectable meat to surge, almost overnight, when Lupans began trading more with southern and western cultures. Salted Greatox Belly made a phenomonal jerky that was easy to carry long distance and tastes just as good no matter how far you take it. The meat is just as versatile as iron, with it serving as a lovely steak dinner, dried jerky, chopped in a stew, or, for the discerning tastes, eaten raw and bloody as the second it was butchered.
Their reddish-brown hides, while not as tough a leather as cow, is an extremely warm fur, and makes the icy Karan Reach a much more welcoming place. The impressive horns of the bulls are nothing to scoff at either, with their racks sometimes becoming bigger than a full grown man's arms.Additional Information
