The Viking Age / Эра Викингов

Empowered by their gods, the Norse Vikings raid coasts of England, Ireland and Northern France. Later, their Norman descendants wreak havoc in Italy and Greece, while their Varangian cousins stand guard protecting those born in the Purple.

The Viking Age is a perfect example of how military-based cultures in their desire to expand and provide a way for their children to live peacefully tend to lose their uniqueness and are easily indoctrinated into more peaceful but invasive cultures. The Vikings set up a way of life that is based on exploration, pillage, and massive relocation to more fertile lands.   They had their pagan gods inherited from ancient Indo-Europeans, they had their ways and their Inhuman... friends. They had their Bearfolk allies from Jan Mayen, trusted furry monstrous friends that had unbreakable bonds with whole bloodlines of Scandinavians.   Unfortunately for them, all these things didn't survive prolonged contact with Christianity. It took two hundred years for them to completely Christianize. It prompted the Bearfolk to just... leave. The trusted friends vanished, but at least they weren't slaughtered like many other Inhumans. For another three hundred years, descendants of the Vikings were the most fervorous and brave warriors in history both in the West and the East.

Эра викингов - отличный пример того, как основанные на войне культуры из-за своего желания обеспечить мирное существование своим детям, теряют свой запал и легко поглощаются более агрессивными, но мирными культурами. Скандинавы выстроили систему, в которой их основными занятиями были путешествия, рейды и массовые переселения в более плодородные земли. У них были свои, унаследованные ещё от индо-европейцев, боги, свои практики и... нечеловеческие друзья. Бэрфолки из Джан Майена, разумные прямоходящие медведи были как духовные звери для них, привязанные неразрывными связями к людским семьям, к целым родам.   К сожалению, ничего из этого не смогло пережить длительный контакт с Христианством. Прошло двести лет, и скандинавы христианизировались. Медведи просто... ушли. Верные друзья просто исчезли, но хотя бы они не были изничтожены, как многие другие виды нелюдей. А потомки викингов ещё в течение трёх веков были одними из лучших, храбрейших и свирепейших бойцов как на Западе, так и на Востоке.
