Vampirism
Vampirism is a magical disease that originates from the cursing of the Sunriver by the demon Baelhor.
It was first contracted by Julius Leontius and his soldiers and has since been transmitted throughout the centuries.
Vampirism is a form of Immortality and Undeadness.
Transmission & Vectors
Vampirism is transmitted through the ingestion of infected blood.
Symptoms
The initial incubation stage causes many symptoms similar to natural viruses: fever, soreness, nausea, headaches, cold and sensitivity to light.
Some people even experience personality changes and become more stressed, aggressive and even sadistic.
Eventually, the culmination of all these symptoms overwork the patient's immune system leading to medical death. However, the magic of the curse maintains the person in a perpetual state of undeadness, virtually turning the person immortal.
Depending on the species of the victim, this process can take a few hours to a few weeks.
Treatment
There are currently no cure for vampirism, however recent progress in the medical and magical field have allowed the treatment of some symptoms, partiucularly the psychological aspects of the disease.
Some medication effectively diminish the patient's aggressive and sadistic tendencies, making the some people able to regain some form of normalcy and being able to live among mortals again. However, such treatments are only carried out in certain parts of the world, as many nations have a "kill-on-sight" policy against vampires.
Prevention
There are currently no preventive action that one can take to prevent the disease. Once infected blood is ingested, the person will either die or turn into a vampire.
Only one instance of a person, named Ephias Trayne, being seemingly immune to the disease has ever been recorded, but his current whereabouts are unknown.
