The Blade is covered in a multitude of explosive runes that activate whenever the blade is in motion, causing it to explode whenever its swung. Though the runes were improperly placed so whenever the Blade is suddenly stopped, the runes go dormant for a second. This creates the effect where when the blade hits its target it functions as a normal weapon, but whenever it missies, hurting the wielder and potential target.
These Runes are also suppressed whenever it is sheathed in its accompanying sheathe
