Effect

After being placed upon a corpse, the magic within the mask will attempt to recreate the soul that had first inhabited the body. Though this process is usually incomplete and creates an undead that is of a higher grade than most created with traditional magic, but does not truly emulate the original person. This process takes approximately half an hour, and after the process is finished the pseudo soul is tethered to the mask, rather than the body, so if the mask is removed from the undead, the spell fails, though it is loosely attached by magic
Due to how the spell works, the undead created with the mask may have a vestiges of both the memories and skills of the original person, meaning the use of 'stronger' bodies creates stronger undead 
Any undead created this way also share a mental link with the caster, allowing them to observe their senses or even sense their current status

Side/Secondary Effects

When the mask is placed upon a living person, it begins to change them due to an influx of magical energy, though this is more of a side effect rather than an intended use, the development may be guided by the caster, but will usually take its own course, twisting the individual into something unfamiliar. This process will take approximately six hours, but has more fluctuations than the primary use of the spell.
The resulting entity will almost always lack any personality or memories of the original entity, but this can be reversed by removing the mask. While under the effect of the mask, the entity will listen to whoever put the mask on. If the caster happens to be a separate person though, they will prioritize their commands rather than the one who put the mask on

The source of the magic used to animate bodies is in the mask rather than the actual caster, meaning anyone with a mask in their possession can use this spell, but the undead resulting from it will always listen to the caster above anyone else
