Mutations
Since the surface of the planet has been covered in magic radiation for several millennia, both humanity and the wildlife looks completely different from before. Creatures who once were affected by the radiation and did not die from it had children that looked wildly different from them, a process which repeated over several generations. Due to the variation of documented effects, mutations have been documented into two groups with their own subgroups in them.
Humanoid - Type Mutation
As the name implies, this is mutations affecting a person. These mostly originate from someone getting affected by a large enough amount of raw magic and then having a child eventually. Due to the parent's irradiated genes, the child is born with a mutation. This can vary from them having green hair to possessing wings, a tail, claws, scales and/or more new traits. A mutation can be present from birth or surface later in life, most commonly during puberty but can happen as late as 90% into the person's lifespan. In rare cases a mutation can appear on its own. Most of those cases originate when a body parts growth glands get supercharged with natural magic. Thus a person can gain a trait completely different from their parents without any external radiation behind it.
* Physical Mutation When the person is born with a mutated physical body. These are the most common mutations, and the most varied. These are the reason humanity looks so different in the present day. People of ancient times ventured to the surface, found it to still be irradiated and went back with radiation poisoning. And some of those who didn't die eventually had children with new traits. Traits that were passed on and evolved through the generations. So now there exists elves, dwarves, halflings, tieflings, dragonborn, gnomes and so many more people. Some individuals can experience an individual mutation. These can do anything from making the offspring of a blue and green colored parent being born with red skin to supercharging their natural growth to make them 7 ft.+ muscular behemoths. Or make an arm grow out of their face. Not everyone survives long.
* Mental Mutation When the person is born with a mutated mind. Mental mutations are hard to document due to them not being visible to the naked eye. Some people learn things at a supernatural rate, some have an incredibly high IQ, some connect to the supernatural (like divine beings or demons) much easier and much more. They can of course be negative too. A person could be born with extremely low intelligence or more easily be affected by mental disorders. And some individuals could grow less and less functional until they're one day effectively braindead. Luckily mental mutations aren't as common as physical ones, and less than 100 people have ever been documented with the last mentioned mutation.
Beast - Type Mutation
This category covers mutations in animals and plants. Unlike humanoids, only physical mutations has been noted in wildlife due to a lack of understanding around their behaviour. Most evolutionary paths have only been speculated since many creatures can only be observed safely from a distance with drone technology, which very few cities have. What we do know is that creatures called dinosaurs existed many million years earlier and came back due to mutated birds and reptiles taking similar forms throughout the generations, dragons evolved from lizards and some beings used to be humans before being horribly mutated. Therefore Beast - Type mutations have been categorized into three sections.
* Reverse Mutation When the life form mutates into a previous stage in its evolution. The reptile group known as dinosaurs are counted in this group, as well as several marine creatures such as Mosasaurus, Dunkleosteus and plesiosaurs along with a few others. Here the magic is speculated to have mutated the genes so several dormant traits became dominant. How far back the creature evolves depends on the amount of magic irradiating it. If it was a small dose it could go as short as 500 000 years and if it's larger as far as almost 500 million years.
* Deviating Mutation When the life form acquires a new trait defying the previous (non-magical) natural laws. This mutation is most common among plant life and can affect entire ecosystems if left alone. Some examples are Hosta Solis, or the sun plant. Due to its ability to absorb heat from the sun as well as light and then emit excess heat, it has almost singlehandedly shaped jungles in western Europe where it grows. Most of these conditions are harmless, but a few like the sun plant can have immense repercussions. Although rare, animals have been documented with this mutation type as well. An example is the Liquidus Figura, or the slime cube. It's a living cube consisting to 98% of slime that somehow has sentience and movement. There are no reasonable idea on how it can even live in the first place, thus it falls into this category.
* Immense Mutation When the life form mutates a lot during a short period of time. Mutations usually take place over several generations with small changes each generation. But sometimes it is huge changes over just a couple generations. For example, the Purple Worm. Due to reports from about 60 years earlier describing it as about 15 meters long and recent reports classing it as 24 meters with armored skin, it fits this category. It is speculated that these mutations appear when especially hardy creatures experiences a huge dose of raw magic. Magic that then take root in their offspring and act as a sort of extra power source for their growth.
