Oxford
Oxford is a university city that was founded in the 8th century, in 1542 it became a city, suspiciously this was during the reign of Henry VIII. Who decreed that if a town built a cathedral, it would be declared as a city. Something that was later repelled because of the production of bricks became so easily produced in the Industrial Era. Later in The Old World, it was decided that the reigning monarch should choose from a list of candidates for what should be called a city. Which by the way is the reason why Guildford UK is not a city. This, in the new world, changed again to the population size and services ratio. Meaning that if the population has enough services to support the population or the other way round, it has a certain status. As Oxford completed its first cathedral in 1200, Christ Church Cathedral, it is unclear how it got its city status.
Oxford is widely known for its universities, having the same kind as Cambridge. The New World and with the knowledge elements of The Great Rewind, the universities were widely used to recheck information and as a way to get back to a life that faintly resembles the 21st century as those of The Old World would know it. However, as many terms, resources and ways of making apparatus have been lost this makes checking the information from the universities' collection of books challenging and lengthening the time it will take to get back to a way of life that has been lost.
