Travelling Bard

In places that arent towns or cities, people rely upon trade from either the bigger settlements or from tourists visiting the villages. Without this, village economies revert to bartering. When trade is required with a city such as with Birdencaster for example. A travelling band will be assembled. These travelling bands will include the necessary people needed to keep a camp going as well as steer a horse and of course a Travelling Bard.   As the band will need entertainment during their downtime hours such as when they are sharpening weapons or tending to Wolf pelts or even cooking.   The Travelling Bard more than likely has a Domra, which is a stringed instrument that when played has a happy timbre when music is played. The instrument comes from Belarus, Russia and Ukraine [1]. It was later brought to the Mediterranean, where its popularity grew. It then went north to the United Kingdom where it is now found.   The initial point of the Travelling Bard is to increase the morale of the travelling band. It may also tell the story of what they have been going through. For example, a reversed version of green bottles is sung in which, instead of green bottles it’s wolf pelts and instead of the number decreasing it increases.

Other times the Travelling Bard has been tempted to play a song while safely in the cart while being attacked by Wolves and playing a battle song to compliment or to motivate the men or the teenage boys in succeeding. This has not come into fruition as a state of panic doesn’t help while trying to play a battle song as well as playing an instrument that doesn’t have the right timbre for battle songs.
