Coblyn

Guards had just chased off the group of hoodlums who moments ago had been pummeling him while he cowered on the ground. He slowly brought himself to his feet, brushed the dust off his pants and surcoat and walked towards where his hat had fallen.   "Are you harmed?" said the guard, more out of duty than actual concern.   "Thank you, sir, I am quite alright, just another day in the city it seems," he reached his mottled green hand up to his hat and tipped it towards the guard. "Good, see that you don't get yourself into any more trouble Coblyn." the guard said snidely as he turned to continue his route.   "I won't sir," Timothy sighed. Coblyn, that's right. Hard enough to make a living as a decent humanoid let alone as the genetic cousin of one of the more hated creatures of the world. Goblins. Not so much a separate species but an offshoot of sorts. Cobylns were similar in appearance and stature, green, long ears, pointy teeth and nails. The whole deal really. But unlike our Goblin cousins, we grew to become more civilised, less unkempt, and certainly less violent. Timothy hoped that one day the rest of the world could see these differences just as much as he did.

Naming Tradtions

Coblyn have drifted away from the naming conventions of their Golbin cousins. Feeling that the aggressive names of the Goblins didn't fit their new found civility. The Coblyn also hope by adopting the naming conventions of other race they will be viewed in a more friendly light when compared to the aggressive Golblinfolk.   Because of this Coblyn names are actually quite diverse as each individual chooses their name based off of what they best identify with. Names can range from Valtym to Timothy or from Gwendoline to Susan. Family names depend on the size of family but again are usually chosen upon preference or upon a specific circumstance or experience. Imagine a small family of Coblyn arriving into town, their first time leaving the hovels of their original birthplace. Deciding that their new family will be called Rockpile, for the pile of rocks the family played by on their travels here. Or possibly Merian, named after the kind barmaid that feed them when they first entered the town.

Customs

Coblyns try and steer far and away from any customary behaviours of Goblin culture. They are polite, courteous, and typically non-violent peaceful people. Trying to ingratiate themselves with society, they typically adopt the customs of whichever city or country they find themselves in. If teatime is a large part of the culture it will begin an important part of the Coblyn families day.   One shared trait with most Coblyns is that they are a very tight knit croup of people. Families will stay together for years and never part for long, if a member does move out of the familial home they typically don't stray far. If a new Coblyn family moves into the neighbourhood any existing Coblyn families will make sure to introduce themselves immediately and make sure the new arrivals are met with a warm heart and kindness.
