Everlight Candle

The candle flickered to life, conjured by a simple magical incantation. It didn't give off much heat but it was a lifesaver regardless. Deep underground in these damp caverns it was nearly impossible to keep any matches nevermind actual light a proper torch.
The Everlight Candle didn't mind the damp though, it shone onwards despite the wet conditions, floating dutifully behind him. It had saved him many times in the past too. Who knew what a little bit of dependable light could accomplish. He continued to pick his way downwards, he was on an awkward slope strewn with rock and debris. Hopefully, he was getting close he thought. This thought was abruptly broken when part of the rock floor suddenly collapsed beneath him, sending him tumbling down a hidden shaft below.
The sudden drop took the wind out of his breath, he struggled to find something to grab on to. His mind raced trying to figure out a way to slow his descent. Then his body slammed against the wall of the shaft driving sharp pain throughout his body. His vision blurred, the second collision against the wall felled him unconscious. His last sight being of his Everlight Candle, dutifully following him to his assured demise.

Appearance

Everlight Candles come in various shapes and forms but always consist of at least one magically enchanted candle. Very rare forms of this item carry multiple candles, though the effects are typically the same.
A common form of the Everlight Candle is a simple wax candle sitting in an iron or copper bowl. Though there are other varieties such as a candle sitting in a lanterns cage, a candle in a simple or ornate candlestick, or sometimes it is just the candle itself with no accompanying holder.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

The Everlight Candle has one significant ability. This candle will stay light no matter the circumstance. Whether it be under water, in an airless environment, or battle high winds it will stay lit. It can even stay lit under magical darkness spells, though its brightness may diminish some.
This candle can illuminate a 60 ft. circumference under normal non-magical circumstances. If under any magical influences such as the aforementioned magically created darkness it will work at half that capacity.
Some Everlight Candles also have the ability to follow their owners, hovering by their side gently bobbing as it goes.

The Everlight candle is a rare item not commonly found in found in the world. Though it is not a one of a kind item, only a few dozen currently exist in the world. Due to its magical nature, it is difficult to craft and rarely found in shops, most individuals who possess one rarely part with it because of its usefulness. Families, typically of higher standing, that are fortunate enough to own one will hold on to them for generation making them into a sort of family heirloom.
