The Twin Moons - Ylir and Uros, once they travelled the skies together. Siblings in a seemingly endless journey around the world. Then, Uros fell, ground to a cloud of dust by a malevolent force that sought only to destroy. Ever since then Ylir has wept, for eons she has mourned for her brother. And each night her tears shine brightly in the night sky, mingling with the remains of her trailing brother.

Appearance of The Twin Moons

Ylir - The Weeping Moon
The elder sister of the twin moons, still whole and orbiting the world. She is a mid-sized planetoid made of dense rock, it is a dull greyish blue in colour. Though during rare events the colour of Yris may brighten into a deeper shade of blue. On a clear night, when Ylir is full, the moon is so large in the night sys that it can seem as if the moon is falling from the sky.

Uros - The Lost Sibling
The younger of the twin moons, he was destroyed eons ago by a cataclysmic event and now trails his surviving sibling as an iridescent cloud of sparkling dust. The colours and brightness of the remains of Uros differ depending on its lunar cycle. Ranging from bright greens to a dull nearly invisible grey. While Uros was whole, he was about half the size of is sister and shown an emerald green almost all the time.

Origin Myth

Legend says that the twin moons circled the world for millennia. Then during a cataclysmic event brought on by forces of malevolence long since forgotten the younger sibling, Uros, was destroyed and vaporized into a cloud of dust. The larger twin, the moon Yris, was grief-stricken and clung on to the remains of her younger brother. For eons now the emerald green remains of Uros have trailed in the stead of Yris' mournful path. Now alone in her journey, it is said that the tears of Yris mingle with her brothers remain, creating a long trail of iridescent dust.

The Twins Embrace

Once every hundred years, a rare celestial event occurs called The Twins Embrace. No one knows why or how this occurs, but during one brief night the celestial trail that was once the moon Uros catches up to their twin sister Ylir and collects itself around the surviving moon. The shinning debris of Uros dances around Ylir in a bright and dazzling display. The moon Ylir shines a deep blue during this time as if the joy of this brief reunion has illuminated her very core.
Some say this is the god's gift to the still mourning Ylir, that once a century she is permitted to reunite with her beloved twin Uros for a single evening.
