Republic, but only those with vast amounts of money ever manage to climb the political ladder Current leader is a a young Jotnar lady who rose to her position through sheer shrewdness and determination. She is very popular with the commonfolk, not so much with the more wealthy Thenians. Thenia is known for their sheep, cloth, luxury goods, instruments, music (bard colleges) and art. Many in Thenia are also traders, trading between the north and the south. Thenia is one of the few lands of the Northern Alliance who still have a warm relationship with the imperial south. Thenia is also popular among tourists and wanderers, due to the country's beautiful scenery and picturesque villages. Also known for their very lax rules on everything from immigration to taxes, to smuggling to slavery. Often called a haven for pirates who smuggle goods and people. The military of Thenia is fairly small compared to many other countries in the North, but their navy is considerable. Despite the "freedom" focus of Thenia, they have succesfully kept their roads and countryside safe from bandits and robbers, some of this success which is attributed to how well each large city organizes their personal guard and soldiers. The smaller villages are usually under the direct protection of a larger city nearby. Thenia has a large population of humans, city elves and jotnar, as well as a considerable population of dwarves and smallfolk as well. One often sees mercenaries and traders from the south in coastal cities in Thenia as well, mostly consisting of imperial humans and Kath'rakh warriors looking for work.
