Bhaal
God of Murder (a.k.a. Lord of War / Orcsmith)
Bhaal was one of the first three gods to emerge from Gaia's corpse after the dragons arrived.
He is considered the creator of the orcs, which he created in his image and also imparted with his passion for fighting and murder. When the Seeds of Gaia rose to the surface under the leadership of the three Forge-Gods to take the world from the dragons, Bhaal stood at the head of the host.
According to legend, it was Bhaal who forced Tiamat to flee into hiding when he nearly split on of her heads in two with his axe. A wound that is said to still cause the tyrant-queen great pain today. In the aftermath of the First Dragon Wars, Bhaal hunted the remaining dragons. He did not distinguish between chromatic dragons that had hidden and metallic dragons that had submitted. This led to tensions with the other gods, who wanted to spare the subjugated dragons. When the Aboleths attempted to conquer Gaia, Bhaal once again overzealously rushed into battle. He had become bored in the aftermath of the Dragon Wars and another massive war seemed like the perfect distraction.
Bhaal is the only god who could resist the corruption of the Abyss, as he was already a being of pure violence and chaos. It is also said that during the time of the Aboleth conflicts he would periodically disappear to fight demons in the Abyss. Many say he did this for selfish reasons, to amuse himself and delay the end of the wars on Gaia. Bhaal met his end when his brother Moradin and him wanted to pit their creations against each other in a competition for the crown of the gods.
The orcs did not universally respond to Bhaal's call and when he descended from Olympus in anger, they lured him into a trap. Using the magic that Cyric had stolen from Mystra and given to them, the orcs bound, defeated, and consumed their creator.
It is said that in his final moments, Bhaal was filled with equal parts anger and pride. He was angry that he had been defeated, but he was also proud that it was his creation that had defeated him. So he gave all the orcs on Gaia with his last power a gift and curse at the same time. Every creature that carried orcish blood should receive a portion of Bhaal's bloodthirst. This would make them powerful warriors, but they would always have a desire for violence and bloodshed.
