Gnomes

Gnomes are generally reclusive and shy towards other races. Their settlements are often well hidden and often exist unnoticed for centuries in the shadows of other races' cities. Gnomes do not usually get involved in the conflicts of humans and other races and often take a neutral stance in these matters. 
There are few who can say they have a gnome for a friend, but even fewer who can say they have a gnome for an enemy. No other race of Gaia lives their life day-to-day like the gnomes; a calendar or grand plans for the future are alien ideas to them. Hardly any council or concern of the mighty is or has ever been about the gnomes and the gnomes themselves hardly waste a thought on the past. As far as they know, they have always been in this world, living in hiding places and hidden caves, and expect the same for the future.
