Selune
Goddess of the Moon (a.k.a. Our Silver Lady / Moonmaiden)
Selune is a caring, but also thoughtful and mystical goddess. She is calm, peaceful and often seems saddened by the events of the world.
In complete contrast to this behavior, which is so typical of her, are the furious battles she wages against her arch-enemy Shar, which stretch across the entire sky and reach into other planes. Selune is in an eternal battle with her sister Shar over control of the night. While Selune wants to fill it with the light of the moon and stars, Shar tries to shroud everything in shadow and darkness during the night. Selune's church is made up of a wildly diverse collection of believers, including sailors, good lycanthropes, mystics and spellcasters. Despite the diversity of the various churches and followers, they are all friendly and helpful to one another.
The appearance of Selune's temples varies as much as their followers vary: from small shrines in the wilderness to open buildings or those with skylights as large as stately homes. The temples practice divination, fight evil lycanthropes, offer healing generously and practice self-reliance and modesty. The clerics of Selune pray at night and face the moon. While most rituals are personal in nature and involve dancing and the offering of wine or milk, all clerics participate in the invocation of the Second Moon and the Mystery of the Night. The invocation of the Second Moon is performed by a group of clerics. The ritual summons the Shards, servants of the goddess, who then carry out the orders of the clerics; usually the order is to fight the subordinates of Shar. At the end of the ritual, one of the clerics becomes a splinter. The Mystery of the Night is celebrated once a year. On this feast day, the clerics, who have entered a trance, rise high into the air to commune with their goddess.
