Storen

The Storen are one of the human races originally from the coasts of Murmarik, before they were displaced by a goblin invasion. Now they have settled in the previously unclaimed lands south of the Mroz Desert. Among the other races of Vanarik, they are considered cunning, practical and indestructible.    Storen always try to make the best of any situation, no matter how bad. They accept things they cannot change and quickly find new solutions to deal with problems and obstacles. Even if they have had to suffer bitter setbacks or misfortunes, they get up again shortly afterwards. To make the path easier for their children and grandchildren, a Store works hard to accumulate wealth and goods for their family.
Storen train extensively in farming, housekeeping and trading, making them capable stewards, treasurers and merchants. While some Storen try to use their lands as productively as possible, others travel far and wide as traveling merchants to sell their goods at high prices.    Their displacement has scattered the Storen as a people across Veström. Some clans settled in the lands south of the Mroz Desert, where they built new settlements and empires in the hope of one day conquering the lands of their homeland with a large army. However, internal power struggles and the passage of time caused this hope to fade into a distant dream. With each generation, the need to fight a bloody battle for their old land disappeared.
Now the new Storian empires concentrate more on consolidating their power and expanding their new homeland. In the process, however, warlike conflicts with the goblins and reactionary vendettas against their old hereditary enemy occur time and again.   Other clans have been wandering the continent with their wagon caravans since their escape, either living far from civilization or moving from settlement to settlement. Wherever these Storen are to be found, they appear as an open and cheerful people. Laughter, music, dancing and drinking are an essential part of a Storian encampment and few are turned away by the eccentric inhabitants of the wagons. Some, however, warn against these wagon camps and advise never to be unguarded in the presence of the Storen. They consider these cheerful strangers to be charlatans who lie, cheat and steal before suddenly disappearing again.

Shared customary codes and values

The power of a good story     The Storen are passionate storytellers and share their legends and tales with everyone they meet. They tell their most exciting stories to each other as well as to strangers and listen attentively when someone else is speaking. While a Store is not afraid to change or embellish details of a recorded tale to add some excitement, it always retains the true essence of the story.
In this way, visitors to a storic wagon settlement can get a fascinating glimpse of the wider world outside their village. Tales of wondrous lands, mighty empires, strange creatures, foreign peoples, heartbreaking tragedies and epic exploits are shared around the campfire by skilled storytellers and may provide some with the most exciting dreams of their lifetime.
