The First Seeds
While the giants and dragons fight on the surface, a seed grows deep beneath the protection of the mountains and earth.
For while Annam and the giants had been busy shaping the world, Gaia had filled it with life. In addition to the plants and beasts she created to feed her children, she planted other seeds across the world.
She wanted to surprise Annam with a colorful and lively world when he returned. In this way, she hoped to show him that the sacrifice of his brothers could also produce something good. But before her work could be completed, she fell victim to the violence of the dragons. But three of these seeds now blossomed underground. From them emerged the brothers Bhaal, Moradin and Bain. When they awoke and saw the devastation of the world on the surface, they were overcome with anger. However, they realized that they were no match for the powers of the giants and dragons and so they hid for now, waiting for a suitable opportunity to claim the world for themselves. However, they did not remain inactive during this time. They created numerous images of themselves who would join them in the inevitable battle for the world.
Bhaal forged the Orcs as a race of mighty warriors. Moradin created the dwarves and taught them the art of forging so that they might equip the armies of the brothers with the best armor and weapons. Bain lacked the patience to work on and refine one piece of work for a long time. So he first created the goblins and sent them off to explore the tunnels and caves. He then forged the hobgoblins, who were to locate the tunnels to the surface and guard them.
Thus the seed of Gaia began to blossom and spread unnoticed beneath the earth.
