Raki (Rok-kii)
The Raki are a vulpine race of Beastfolk, that resemble humanoid Arctic Foxes. They can come in white or red fur. They are a distant cousin of the Foxian race.
"In Maelstrom, we have the shadowy Raki, foxian beastfolk that must enjoy subterfuge and darkness. I never seen one in the public before, and if I do? They are poof, gone the next moment!"~Harkon Icebreaker, Maelstromer Brewer of Mythia
Basic Information
Anatomy
The Raki are smaller Fox-like humanoids that resemble Arctic foxes with a black stripe of fur on the tip of their snout. It is also not uncommon to spot a red-furred Raki as well. They stand digitgrade, have a large bushy tail, large ears and a long pointed snout. They have claws on thier feet and hands and have excellent eye sight. It's a fox that stands upright to many, however they have an affinity of being silent and lonesome.
Dietary Needs and Habits
The Raki are omnivores, that favor meat and berries. They were originally a scavenger species that could also hunt prey in the heaviest of blizzards. They maintain their hunter traits well, and often make a living being hunters, and leather workers. In more temperate regions the Raki will take a more reddish fur coloring and lean towards berry harvesting over hunting. They often serve berry dishes along side fish meals, which are said to be simple, yet extraordinary.
"If you ever come across a raki fishing village, I recommend accepting a meal from them! They are simple, yet fantastic fishermen, and Campers!"~Harold Giantsbane, Maelstromer adventurer.
Additional Information
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
The Raki have excellent smell hearing and eye sight, truly one of the Apex predators of their Bestial Ancestory. They also move silently as they have thick paw-pads on their feet and hands, usually used to combat the icy and cold conditions of Maelstrom. Agile as they are flexible, they are also heavily ambidextrous. It's almsot impossible to dislocate a raki's limbs.
Civilization and Culture
Relationship Ideals
A raki often finds a mate for life, and rarly do they find another if their mate dies. They are loyal race to each other and will often consent for permission on certian actions. They are a known romantic species and somtimes playfully flirt with other races. When one does decide to be seen publically, they often can be very poetic and charismatic. One thing if for certian though, if you havea Raki Mate, you have a mate for life.
"I adore the loyalty the Raki have to each other. Small families often make up the clans, and its not rare to see a family of Raki travel as a caravan to sell and barter their goods. I feel jealous whenever I see a mated pair hugging each other. "~Juliene Havardsoth, Human Courier.
History
The Raki are an offshoot of a ancient foxian mega-race that once was distributed amognst Gaia for a time. They have ties to the Combined Empire, but their origin story is clearly unknown. It is said that the Combined Empire seeded Gaia with a fox-like animal that would have eventually evolved into the two subspecies that are known today in Gaia. The raki were the race that evolved in the northern part of Gaia, as the Foxian were more equatorial.
The Raki however still rely on feral instinct in some cases and are a shy species unlike their foxian cousins. They were one of the Unified Beatsraces that were allowed to join the Kingdom of Mythia, however the larger majority live within the Saalsland Wastes, the Great Divide, and Steamfront. Still maintaining a nomadic lifestyle, small clans often rove the continent in caravans, which are happy to do business with anyone who desires to deal with them as a merchant or customer.
Interspecies Relations and Assumptions
The Raki do not care for what the other is. They are a person to be seen and respected if they deserve it. In Raki can also become mates of non-Raki, and the same trait applies, the Raki is loyal untill death, unless they are betrayed by love. If this happens, the Raki will often fall into a depression and become careless, as if thier life meant nothing. They will often drink, or exile themselves to the wilds to live as a hermit.
"Word of advice...if I see you cheat on that Raki...I will have your head, you're lucky to have gained them to be devoted to you."~Mother of a recently married Raki inter-species couple.
