Governor of Talioche

The title of Lareena's representative and highest office of government in Talioche. A role for allies of the Crown, outside of the normal political structure and less beholden too the courts and traditions of the mainland. Usually selected from smaller power hungry nobles or even commoners with sufficient ambition and connection, the governorship of Talioche is a position that many members for the court eagerly vie for.

Appointment

The monarch of Lareena selects potential governors from among his courtiers, advisors or favoured allies, and formally appoints them himself. There is often little ceremony, other than a quiet conversation with the ruler about his or her expectations.

Duties

Ensure that Lareena's interests in Talioche are safe and prospering. Expand influence and control over the island. Decide on matters of law making over Talioche. Host and negotiate with foreign powers interested in Talioche. Act in the interest of the crown and country first.

Responsibilities

Ensure that the correct taxes and tarrifs are payed on goods exported from Talioche. Keep up maintenance with the of public property and construction. Ensure effective and useful distribution of the small number of troops. Record foreign interference. Identify possible persons to be granted title and land on the island. Negotiate disputes between nobles, landowners, guilds and merchants.

Benefits

Luxurious quarters in the governors house in Kadesmuth, large payment and the control of a huge number of valuable exports to the mainland. Considerable political power, controlling who gets access and influence to Talioche and by how much. The king or queen's ear in both a formal and informal way. The only office with the ability to elevate persons to nobility, whose right comes from given title not bloodline.

Grounds for Removal/Dismissal

As the title is outside of Lareena's normal civil and legal structure, there are no formal grounds for dismissal save sedition. Removal is often at the whim of the Crown, usually for failure to serve their interests or for too upsetting the balance of power among the nobles houses.
