Pelantus

A type of bird, something like a combination between a phoenix and a pegasus. It has four legs with hooves like a horse, and its mane is white like that of a pegasus. It also has a white horn protruding from its forehead but it’s got the general feather colour of a phoenix and acts like one as well. Unlike the phoenix however, it doesn't reincarnate using fire but instead water. The pelantus has the head of a bird, and looks more like one too.
Pelantus creatures have an ethereal air to them, and they tend look like they’re floating when walking unlike a normal horse would. Not only that, but the small trails of blue they leave behind them when they fly give them an otherworldly appearance, like something that shouldn't exist in the world.

The pelantus has the head of a bird, and looks more like one too, with the body of a horse and build of one.

Biological Traits

The pelantus is something that's used to represent rebirth and a brand new beginning, something like a phoenix would for us. Unlike the phoenix however, it doesn't reincarnate using fire but instead water. Just how water flows around in a cycle from the mountains to the seas, then to the skies and rains down on the mountains again, the pelantus represents the cycle of life and starting brand new. This is also why they all have water-based abilities.

Genetics and Reproduction

Pelantus lay eggs like normal birds do. They tend to be the size of about an adult horse. Their eggs tend to be around 4-5 abals tall.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Pelantus are omnivores. They have a mostly herbivore diet, but need to eat meat at least once a week, typically being rabbit meat or similar small game. Because of this, they're relatively easy to take care of, should you manage to find and tame one. 
They are however, extremely hard to take care of outside of areas filled with water, as they thrive on it and need it for their survival.  That's why they tend be found only near rivers, lakes and oceans rather than anywhere else.

Biological Cycle

As they are a creature that relies on water to be able to thrive and survive, they tend to hibernate throughout the winter. They are creatures that hide deep in the mountains but near rivers during the winter months that are the coldest of the year and when the rivers and waters are frozen over and their flow restricted the most. 
While some can still be found wander around sometimes during the winter, is it only to get a little bit more food before promptly going back into their dens for hibernation.

Conservation Status

While the pelantus aren't anywhere near being extinct, as they're both small enough in number and seen as a holy animal in the Kingdom of Kynhaymia, they're considered sacred and shouldn't be hunted. A part of the Wertak'ka'ji Mountains have been designated as protected land, and all pelantus live there.
Their habitat is highly guarded, and only a selected few even know of its location, to further ensure the safety of these creatures.
Should anyone be found to be in possession of any pelantus trophies or parts, they are to be sentenced to death, regardless of one's status as a commoner or noble. Should one be found to be the dealer, both them and their entire family shall share the punishment, as an example.

Can grow to about 6-9 abals tall.

Average Weight

They weigh around 470 toruls for an average adult and can carry an average weighted human, but not for longer than about an hour max, if pushed. Usually it’s something more around half an hour.

They are around 6 abals in length, and have a wing span of around 53 abals long for an adult.
