Coupling

The equivalent of marriage in Vastus society in Bah-go-kee where two mates join together to form a family. Suitors for children of two established families are selected to promote good relations with each family. The age of marriage is generally between 12 and 18 Earth years with deviations below this threshold looked down upon and above seen as queer unless the individual has loss their couple. Recognition of children only results in legally coupled Vastus and it is not accepted to have recognized children even if their are no legitimate offspring to inherit land or claims.   The ceremony involves members of the extended families of both participants to watch as the two recite words from an ancient Bah’go dialect largely forgotten by those who still live in the area. The final word of the ceremony is the new family name that the couple has chosen for themselves. Four nights of party and feasts are generally held with wealthier Vastus having up to sixteen days of feast. In the case of the upper class, their is traditionally a bedding ceremony.
