Luna
When man first looked upon the night sky, the greatest sight they saw was the heavens, and the crown jewel was the Moon, Luna, the dream of all mankind. Man, first stepping on Luna in the year 1969, and established the first permanent Moon bases in 2098, would establish the first full scale colonization effort upon Luna in the year 2145, which would be the beginning for all of Mankind and the dream to take to the stars and go where no man has gone before.
Mankind had always dreamed of touching the stars, and nothing was more desired in this pursuit then to put a man upon the surface of Luna, but for most of Mankind's existence the technological ability to touch the moon was impossible, that was until during the period of History from the mid to late 20th century known as the Cold War, when the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics and the United States of America entered a race against each other to win the glory and prestige of spearheading mankind's journey into the stars.
Persisting even to the Fall, the debate on who won the race remained alive and fiery, but the fact no one could give reasonable doubt to, was that on July 20th, 1969, The Apollo 11 Mission, Crewed by American Astronauts Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins successfully landed upon the Moon, with Neil Armstrong uttering before taking the very first step upon the Moon,
"That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind"
Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin would be the first humans to ever step foot upon the moon, and this event was seen by many, primarily in the western world, as the end of the Space Race, declaring it an American Victory over its ideological enemy the Soviet Union.
Interest in the Moon would die down over the years, until the 2090s, when the nations of the world began to establish a series of Moon Bases, with the United States establishing Homestead 1, upon the sight of the first moon landing in 2092, Followed in rapid succession by Triumph Station of the Federal Russian Republic in 2093, Homeland Post of the 6th French Republic in 2094, the Joint Accord Base established by Canada, The United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand in 2095, the People's Port in 2096 by the People's Republic of China, The Will Station formed by the Arab Accord between Iraq, Jordan, Syria, Egypt and Libya, in 2098 and the Humble Station in 2099 by the Republic of India.
Come 2105, and the United Nations officially formed the Colonial Council, a predecessor to the many committees, councils and boards of the UN, and mankind began a more organized colonial effort of the moon, establishing dozens of joint bases meant to ease tensions ahead of the first mass colonial effort of Luna, which would come in 2145, with the first colony ships landing at predesignated stations from which new lunar bases and cities, industrial and mining sectors and anything else deemed needed by the colonial authorities.
The Center of the Luna Colony ventures would be Armstrong Station, which was built out of the original Homestead 1 station and named in honor of the first human to ever land on the moon Neil Armstrong, the Station served as the center point for the Luna transport network and as the primary port for all those coming to Luna and all exports off the Moon, along with being home to the main racing circuit on the Moon, the station would become in the history of Mankind the very First Starport.
Luna would be to modern mankind, what Jamestown was to the old world during the age of colonization, the gateway into a whole new world, with Luna serving as the gate and prime example of the new life humans could pursue out there in the galaxy when given the freedom to dream and pursue new horizons, it captured the imagination and was the prime destination seeking adventure and glory among the stars of our universe.
The Only exception to that current state of the Mon, is a single facility upon the surface of Luna, the DX-1 Thumper station was developed as a way to, using seismic activity and vibrations in the Moon's crust, map Subterranean tunnels and caverns that had been discovered running within the Moon. Currently the DX-1 continues to serve its original purpose, serving as a base for the Federal Military Survey Core. However, growing rumors have suggested something darker, more secretive in nature is taking place at DX-1, with an unusually high number of accidental deaths for members of the FMSC, and the leaked reports of a facility located 2 Miles under the DX-1, however the Federal Government has denied such claims.
History
Pre-Colonization
The Moon, Luna, Lund, Selene, Mond, the Moon has possessed many names, every culture under the night sky had a name for it, and all believed it something beyond a ball of rock in the sky. For some it was a great carriage carried by horses, others it was a great beast, or a man who ran in the night sky, no matter what they believed, the truth of the matter is fairly simple, the Moon is a satellite in the orbit of Earth, believed to have been created when a large asteroid slammed into Earth billions of years ago, and becoming Earths only natural satellite.Mankind had always dreamed of touching the stars, and nothing was more desired in this pursuit then to put a man upon the surface of Luna, but for most of Mankind's existence the technological ability to touch the moon was impossible, that was until during the period of History from the mid to late 20th century known as the Cold War, when the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics and the United States of America entered a race against each other to win the glory and prestige of spearheading mankind's journey into the stars.

Colonization
Following the establishment of the first Luna Colonies, Luna would become a transit center for Human Ships departing Earthtowards the rest of the Solar System and as time went on the expanding human nation across the galaxy. Beyond this, Luna served as the stomping ground of research institutes, mining conglomerates seeking to exploit the untapped potential of the Moon, and even massive racetracks in moon gravity.

Post Fall
When the Fall came, human civilization would collapse upon Luna, unable to support its own population due to a minimal food supply and lack of long-term survival ability, meaning many fled the Moon down to the Earth Ration Sites. Human civilization would not be reestablished on Luna until in the year 2715(250AF), when the Federation Expedition of the Magellan landed in the Starport of Armstrong Station, Establishing a forward base of operations with the goal of rebuilding and reincorporating Armstrong Station into Humanity, however due to resource shortages and the fact most of Earth is still a ruin, the Moon outside of Armstrong Station remains a ruin uncolonized by the Federation until additional resources are freed up for colonial ventures. The Only exception to that current state of the Mon, is a single facility upon the surface of Luna, the DX-1 Thumper station was developed as a way to, using seismic activity and vibrations in the Moon's crust, map Subterranean tunnels and caverns that had been discovered running within the Moon.
