Sand Surfer

A sand surfer is a desert vehicle, first implemented in AV 49. It is used to transport cargo and passengers across the shifting sands of Galactus's deserts.

Surfing the Desert

Sand surfers are made of balsa wood frames, strong yet light to hold large amounts of weight. These are usually reinforced with metal, hard woods, or even magic, depending on the craftsman. A surfer sits on a pair of long, wide runners which keep it lightly balanced on the surface of the desert. Canvas is stretched across the frame, and a floor is made from wooden planks, usually balsa. At the front of the surfer, long traces lead to a harness in which an animal can be strapped. Traditionally, surfers are pulled by camels or desert horses. Surfers are also equipped with two small masts, to which wide sails can be attached. This allows the surfer to move even faster, especially when backed by strong desert winds. In some communities, folk will use wind spells to further boost the surfer's speed, sending it speeding across the shifting sands.
