The Swallowing

The Swallowing is a predetermined series of events which will lead up to the end of Galactus as some point in its future.

Catalyst for the End

A time will come when the World-Mother, Althea, is trapped by the Dark Three or its followers. When this occurs, she will no longer have the ability to push against the coming dark forces, eliminating for them a huge threat to their success. It is unknown where or how the World-Mother will be trapped, but she must be restored or the end of the world draws closer.

With Althea out of the way, the dark powers will be free to conspire and gather strength. Their next task is to steal the Moon Sickle from Metsli's grasp. This can be done a variety of ways, but never peacefully. The Moon Sickle is one of the few weapons that could break the chains of the Abyss.

The dark forces must then locate the Abyss, trapped in the Floating Isle which only emerges from between planes every hundred or so years. The Floating Isle sits high above the surface of the world, usually above a ocean but always in a different place. It stays there for about a week before vanishing again. On the Isle sits a large labyrinth, filled with all manner of guardians entrusted with safeguarding the Abyss's prison. Anything on the Isle disappears with it, floating through suspended time until the Isle's next appearance.

Chaos Begins

When the chains of the Abyss are severed, the end of the world truly begins. The Abyss, weak from its long imprisonment, begins to slowly build power and grow. Meanwhile, the monsters of Galactus, led by Tixan and Iartus, overflow from the depths and corners of the world to battle the mortals. They will strike before the deities know what is happening, and slay many mortals. When the deities and heroes of the world fight back, the war will spread across the entire planet. Cities will fall, and the monsters will prevail. It is here where Vitalis and Vytos, the deities who could not let the mortals go, will be destroyed for good.

The Swallowing

As chaos spreads, so too does the power of the Abyss. It will swallow the outer planes, the elemental planes, slowing closing in on the center of the deities' creation, Galactus itself. One by one the deities will fall, until the last deity standing is Termin. Termin, as deity of endings, has the final task, supervised by the victorious Dark Three, of escorting the souls of all the lost mortals and deities into Ydosgard, after which he must watch as the Abyss swallows that too. Termin and Galactus, the last things left, are then swallowed by the Abyss, and darkness reigns at last.
