Grel
The Grel'daan (known as Grel) are a race of reptilian, humanoid creatures hailing from the similarly named planet Grel'daan. They are the 3rd of the Expansion era species. Known for their sheer size and strength, they are nevertheless one of the more peaceful species within the reaches.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Grel are a humanoid Bipedal species with 2 arms and 2 legs. They are Reptilian in appearance and thus lack any sort of hair or feathers, instead just having a scaly or leathery hide.
They are widely known for being one of the largest and physically imposing species in the Galaxy, with strength to match.
Grel on average have broad chests with wide shoulders. Their legs are short for their height, but they make up for it with their muscular arms, which reach down to their knees.

Social Structure
Grel social structures are overhelmingly Matrilineal.
Grel generally organize in familial Clans, composed of up to five generations. The oldest female member in the group is the Clan Matriarch. The Clans are thus mostly made up of the Matriarch's sons and daughters, and any members who have married, or otherwise mated, into the Clan.
Male Grel will sometimes abandon their Clans for various reasons, and either join other clans or find their way in the wider galaxy.
An important aspect of all Grel cultures is the focus on physical combat. More so than in other species, the Grel bond through fighting, and most Grel would not call another friend if they have not fought. As such, the best way to befriend a Grel has always been to engage in an intense, but fair brawl.
Facial characteristics
The most recognizable trait of the Grel species as a whole is their offset eye sockets. protected by thick bone, Grel eyes are forward-facing but protrude from the sides of their faces, an evolutionary adaptation with unknown purpose.
Their skulls are rather thick, with bone plating to protect the brain from heavy blows. They have large and powerful jaws with a prominent underbite. Male Grel generally have two large lower canines protruding from their lower lip, as well as more squared jaws and angular bone plating on the skull. Female Grel generally have pointier chins, and smoother bone plating.
Grel eyes are Reptilian with a vertical slit pupil.

Beauty Ideals
in Many Grel cultures, it's considered a sign of standing to have duelling scars, prominently portrayed on their faces. Male and Female Grel alike can thus be seen with such scars, regardless of class or social status.
