Drupal
Drupal, once a master craftsman and renowned mask maker in Clarion, was a dwarf deeply rooted in the intricate art of metalworking. His life took an unexpected turn when he began receiving visions in his dreams—visions that he believed were sent by Dhara, the god of liberation. These dreams spoke of a forgotten black obelisk, once connected to the mysterious Black Ocean, and foretold a meeting with Joseph Dexter Dundy, a descendant of one of the Six Heroes of Dhara. Convinced that the safety of the realm hinged on his research into this ancient artifact, Drupal sought out Dex, joining his crew aboard the Gobsnapper, the ship of the adventurer and his band of heroes known as the Shatterbrand. Due to his critical role in the mask creation industry in Clarion, Drupal had to be secretly smuggled out of the city to fulfill his new destiny.
On the Gobsnapper, Drupal's expertise in fine metals and his deep knowledge of dwarven craftsmanship made him an invaluable member of the crew. His skill in tinkering and repairing the more complicated parts of the ship was unmatched, though he was often distracted by the voices he believed were Dhara's. These whispers urged him to delve deeper into his research, pushing him toward the discovery of a rare essence vein of raw magic—an untapped power that could prove crucial in the battles to come. As a conduit for divine energy, Drupal's connection to Dhara set him apart, and he believed the old essence veins were tied to the black obelisks.
Driven by the visions and his unwavering belief in Dhara’s guidance, Drupal found himself on the pirate island of Gallow’s Sway. Here, he discovered an ancient essence vein, a source of untold power, but to access it, he needed more than just skill—he needed strength. In a moment of desperation, Drupal donned the "Helm, Just Helm," a legendary artifact forged by Brokkr Kilnbellow, the dwarven god of craft. This helmet, designed for demolishing structures and caves, granted immense fortitude at the cost of one’s intelligence. Drupal knew the risk but felt it was his destiny.
The surge of magic from the vein was overwhelming, disintegrating the magical artifacts around him but permanently bonding their power to the wearer. In that moment, Drupal, the brilliant craftsman, was transformed. His mind dulled, his memories of a life dedicated to precision and art faded, replaced by a simple, unyielding strength. No longer able to recall his former life or even his name, he began to call himself "Paul, Just Paul." Though his intellect had diminished, his body now possessed an incredible fortitude, and he carried the essence of his lost craft within him, a silent reminder of the dwarf he once was. Paul remains a powerful, albeit simple, presence on the Gobsnapper, embodying the paradox of strength and loss, still driven by the echoes of a divine purpose he can no longer fully comprehend.
