The Return to the Roots
When a member of the Kishar Grovekin passes away, they are given a funeral rite known as the Return to the Roots. The body of the deceased is placed in a natural cocoon made of woven vines and leaves, along with tokens of their life and service to the Tree Mother. This cocoon is then buried at the base of a young tree, chosen specifically for the occasion.
The Sappbinders perform a solemn ritual, invoking the Tree Mother to guide the soul of the departed back into the embrace of the earth. As the body breaks down, the tree that was selected is nourished by the deceased Grovekin. Over time, the tree becomes a living memorial to the deceased, standing as a testament to their connection to Kishar and the natural world.
