Naval Battles of WW1

A complete list of the significant naval battles occurring in World War One. A large part of these battles include air battles as well, involving gunships.   Naval technolgy was in a odd position when the Great War started and ended; turret cannons and large battleships were still in use, but missles have also been part of military technology for a long time, and large naval missles did coexist with WW2-looking ships, but these missles were in effective a lot of the time and not to mention very expensive, but when they were used sucessfully, they did a considerable amount of damage. Weak blimp airships from the 19th century were now metal-clad airships with large AA, tons of effective mini airplanes that could defend the airship, and armour that protected the helium balloons inside.   An important BAC was the Petana, which was a 900 ft long BAC which was created by Great Ceshal in 1907. It could normally carry approx. 55 aircraft, and was also nuclear powered. This turned out to be an issue when the Petana was heavily damaged in the Battle of Naimer, and the exposed nuclear waste meant that the Petana never saw action again in the Great War.

The Conflict

Battlefield

Vast ocean and the sky filled with giant gunships and aircraft smoldering with fire in the most intense battles.

The Engagement

Battle of Ageilla Strait: This battle consisted of multiple engagements in the Ageilla strait, between Kenton and Ubrain. This battle happened after the Iosian navy fleet was extended to the Ageilla strait after the first Kenton invasion, with 6 battleships and many other smaller vessals being in the battle.Thousands of aircraft invaded Ubrain air space as well, and lasted 2 days.   A fleet of over 100 destroyers plus the 6 battleships and 3 BAC's (Blimp Aircraft Carriers) went into the Ageilla Strait before the barrage of aircraft were supposed to arrive. In the meantime, the numerous destroyers shelled Ubrain supply ships and frigates.   -Ubrainian coastal gun overlooking the battle-
The Ubrainian Navy scrambled to arrive at the battle, and 500 aircraft also arrived to take on the massive BAC's in the strait. The 8th Ubrain Navy fleet responded first, sinking 16 ships in total, but they lost 15 due to Ios still having air superiority. By the end, Ios aircraft were needed elsewhere, and 1 BAC (named Xans) had been heavily damaged, later being taken down on Ubrain soil. The Ubrainian Navy achieved victory, but at a large cost.     Battle of Cladonia: This battle was a 27 hour long naval battle involving the Lochuegro Navy and the Ios navy. Iosian battleships were skirmishing with the Lochuegro Navy after the controversial naval blockade of the Bultan Gulf. Raph wanted to take his resources by force, so he took a fleet of 5 dreadnoughts, (a type of large battleship) and engaged Lochuegro's largest BAC in port, and destroyed it (which caused a massive fire, killing 50).
  • Ios Swinies carrier burns after being hit by multiple torpedos-
  •     The Rebozueloa and Lungwort (both from Ubrain) drove away the 2 damaged dreadnoughts still not in the skirmish, so even though Lochuegro didn't really lose, their naval capabilities were crippled for the rest of the war.         Battle of Kearbour Gulf: This 4 day long battle was the biggest naval battle in WW1, and possibly ever. The Kearbour Gulf was a small gulf in South Caushaw, and was the main location for this historic battle.   A Ubrain fleet of 6 light BAC's and more than 20 destroyers set off near the Naimer island to support a amphibious assault on the Naimer island, but they found a large Pobaranian presence 20 miles off in the distance, coming their way.   Although the Ubrainians found them first, the Pobaranians engaged first, launching a armour-piercing missile at the Gamlinet, a light BAC, starting the battle.   -The Warfait about to engage a Ceshal Battleship with a light BAC burning in the distance-
The Ubrain fleet was bombarded, and needed to retreat. The troops in Naimer were left with little naval support, and Ubrain needed to take action. Ceshal and Ubrain gathered over 200 ships to take back the Naimer island, and push the Pobaranians out of South Caushaw. Both sides engaged in large battles, and also saw the first use of the Kusiogo, a deadly gunship made by the Pobaranians in 1909. 2 saw action in this battle, with one being heavily damaged and one out of action due to overheating of the jet engines.   The main Durhan BAC was the Petana, with it sitting 3 miles from the middle of the battle. It too was heavily damaged by torpedos, and would be eventually docked and repaired for military museums. In the end, both sides claimed victory after this outrageous battle, and would the Pobaranians would eventually withdraw their navy after confronting Kostawain.
