The tale of a man who won the favour of Calantha

Write a myth or legend surrounding a figure of kindness, giving or hospitality.   In a humble village, not far from the capital of the Light Kingdom, was home to a group of travellers who had heard of a mythical tale about a magical plant that could grant them whatever they desired, just from the pluck of one if it's petals. The group had decided to set out in search of this flower in order to fulfil their greatest wishes. One of the men in this group, a farmer named Anzar, goes along with them, hoping to wish for a better life for his poor family. The group of travellers going on this trip, knew that they would have to be careful getting the plant as the plant was rumoured to be guarded by Calantha, the ruthless and cold spirit of the forests, and she would not give up any of her precious plants so easily. The group armoured themselves with swords and arrows and their magic in hopes of taking the plant by force.   The group travelled in the forest for many days, until they eventually met the rath of Calantha and her friend, Ardh. Calantha sent poisonous ivy and vines to attack and subdue the travellers but they fought them off with their magic and their weapons. The leader of the group, demanded to see Calantha. Calantha revealed herself in her radiant but poisonous form. Anzar bowed in her presence, which he had been taught to do as a sign of respect for the spirits. His group laughed and mocked him for his easy submission but Calantha was taken aback and pleasantly surprised, she hadn't been bowed to in years. The group demanded to have the plant and threated her if she didn't comply. Calantha was extremely confused before realising the Guardians foolish mistake and tried her hardest not to laugh out loud at their stupidity. The plant they had been searching for, didn't exist, just another made up mythos. Calantha suddenly got a very wicked idea and went back to her original hiding spot with Ardh and they formed a prank together. They went back to the groupand told them that they would give the plant to whoever managed to complete their three tasks first. The first was to find Ardh's spear, a spear that didn't exist, the second was to successfully convince Ilka, the spirit that inhabited the Peace Kingdoms waters, to give them one of her favourite pearls, the final one, was to win a game of trickery against Ardh. Many people backed out but some still stayed, including Anzar.   Before everyone went on their journey, Calantha and Ardh overheard some of the people's conversion about what they were wishing for, including the leader, who wished for immortality and glory, while Anzar only wished for better harvest so that his family could have enough food to survive the harsh winters. Calantha felt a pang of guilt and pity for Anzar and hatched a plan with Ardh to help him on his impossible tasks. They created a fake spear and hid it where he would easily find it, they told Ilka on Anzar's situation and Ilka agreed to give one of her pearls, and finally, Ardh allowed Anzar to win. Most of the other people just eventually gave up and went home after the first task, all expect the leader (and of course Anzar). The leader disguised his own spear as Ardh's and stole a fake pearl, but he couldn't complete the third task. Enraged at the fact a poor, wimpy farmer managed to complete all the tasks. He claimed that he was stronger, faster and braver than he was and deserved the plant. Calantha and Ardh couldn't contain their laughter and burst out laughing at him, revealing that the plant wasn't real and those challenges were just a nasty prank. Anzar was devastated and silently retreated into himself, while the leader became more furious than ever and tried to attack Calantha and Ardh. Anzar tried to stop him, saying murder wasn't going to solve any of their problems but he shoved past him with his spear. Calantha grapped him by his arms and legs with her vines and handed him over to Ardh to deal with, dragging him deep him, deep into the forests. Calantha went back to Anzar and promised him that even though the plant wasn't real, she would still try and fulfil his wish, all he needed to do was to go home. Anzar went home to his wife and children defeated and feeling worthless, especially when they all went to bed hungry again. But when he awoke the mourning, he found his crops rich and flourishing in his golden fields. Anzar, quickly realised that this was the work of Calantha and as thanks, left out offerings in her forest everyday. Anzar's crops continued to flourish and grow everyday and even managed to earn a decent amount of money from them. Anzar and his family never had to worry about food or money again, and in even during present day, his decedents still leave out offerings to Calantha as thanks, even today.

Summary

Summery is at the top because I couldn't form it correctly in this section.

Historical Basis

This myth is an actual story that happened in my world, around 500 years before the main events of the story, although it has been altered throughout time and different places. There's not a lot of solid concrete evidence of this event however as the only way this story has been passed down is through the generations of Anzar and accounts from Calantha and Ardh. This has led to the story being altered over the years.

Spread

It's just one of those stories that people like to share to their children to convince them to be kind and humble, even if they don't know if the myth is real or not.

Variations & Mutation

In some versions of the story Ardh isn't even in it, in some other versions the only people on the trip were Anzar and the leader, in others the leader even has a name although it's changed quite often and in other versions Anzar didn't even have a name, just the farmer. Another popular version of the that the second challenge was replaced with climbing to the highest mountain in Garda and collecting a single snowflake from it instead of the pearls
