SC2020 - The Explorer’s Guide
While not one specific document per say, a variety of these “guides” existed all over the bright side. These are a mixture of story books telling the tales of fantastic adventurers, archeological manuals and a survivors handbook. The Explorer’s Guide was first printed and published by the Great City of Hratgjur in an attempt to glorify the Core Explorer profession and by doing so encourage others to seek out the profession, thereby increasing the chance that the next Fusion Reactor Core would be found and acquired by Hratgjur.
The other great cities saw this and made their own versions, either blatant copies with small tweaks to fit their narrative or whole new book, written from the same concept – although even these whole new books would steal what they deemed the best part of the other versions and include in theirs.
No one knows which city first got the idea, but as time went by The Explorer’s Guide evolved into a manual for survival and archeological exploration as well, so that The Explorer’s Guide could not only serve as a source of inspiration for people to want to become a Core Explorer, but also as the handbook for the education itself.
This book evolved over the cause of centuries, as every great city tried to have the bet version, but since they were so readily available, every great city also had access to the other’s version and therefore, against their own will it became a competitive collaborative progress with each of the Great City’s own version most often looking like a reskin of the general book.
The book became hugely popular as it not only included great tales for children and young adults, but these tales was filled with the knowledge the needed to best survive the hazards of Garuda. Furthermore, it even came with semi-educational games that the children could play to learn these lessons.
After the City Senate banned the Core Explorer profession, they stopped printing the book and even for a short while tried to get rid of all the versions in circulation. However, by this time all household had one, and most loved it, there was friendly (and sometimes not so friendly) bander about which version was the best, and it had become a rare piece of culture that was found throughout the Bright Side. Thus, the City Senate eventually realized their misguided ways before they inadvertently started a rebellion. However, the seeds of mistrust were forever sown and many point to this as the spark that started the rebellion movement. One thing is for sure, the move to first make the book illegal has meant that hardly anyone wants anything to do with the new rebranded version, that keeps in the educational content, but has eradicated all traces of the Core Explorers.
