101st. Infantry Division
Officially, Imperial Army is divided into one hundred divisions of varying sized and internal structure, some of them infantry and some cavalry, depending on the need of the region they are stationed in. There is, however, one special division, numbered 101 and close to army in size, that does not participates in normal Imperial Army operations, unless the situation is really critical.
It is a special, elite formation, tasked with special missions and used to counter very special threats to the Imperium of Karadia and its population.
Structure
Despite officially hailing from Imperial Army, the 101st. Infantry Division is in fact a semi-independent organization funded directly from imperial treasury and partially subservient to Imperial Ministry of Religious Affairs, Imperial Ministry of Internal Affairs, and Imperial Ministry of Magic.
It is allowed to be autonomous due to Imperium deeming that an easiest way to avoid internal struggle for control over it among Imperial Council. 101st. Infantry Division recruits and trains its own members on its own, ensuing that Imperial Magic Guild, magical anomalies and provincial anomalies are always supplied with enough division members to allow the Imperium to work smoothly, while keeping enough forced in reserve to react in case of crises.
Internal structure of 101st. Infantry Division is slightly similar to Imperial Army divisions, internally divided into brigades, regiments, batallions and companies. Its size, however, reaches one typical for imperial armies, however it is heavily divided and spread throughout Imperium as a whole, rarely fielding brigade size units.
Its commander – with unique rank of Senior General – is appointed by Imperator himself and considered equal with highest ranked officers of Imperial Army. Beside all spread garrisons and forces of 101st. Infantry Division he also commands departments responsible for recruiting new candidates and their ardurous training.
Public Agenda
Public Agenda of 101st. Infantry Division can be summed to Study, Contain, Protect. Its members are responsible for magical security of Imperium of Karadia, serving as armed hand of Imperial Magic Guild, Brotherhood of Crows and pretty much every other imperial organization that is forced to face threats of magical nature.
Soldiers of 101st. Infantry Division receive special training and top notch equipment, not to mention being a rather well paid group of imperial servants. They are used to operate in magical anomalies, counter daemonic incursions into Real World, arrest or kill dangerous magicians or aura manipulators, guard important magical locations (like stashes of artifacts that the Imperium confiscated), help in containing outbreaks of dangerous disease and as a support, core or replacement for Imperial Army's Auxilliary.
Assets
Mostly training camps scattered around Imperium (to be able to train soldiers in diverse environments) and 35-70 thousands of soldiers, depending on current situation that defines the need for more soldiers and the ammount of money the Imperium is willing to spend on 101st.
It has its own headquarters placed in Falon-nir, where Senior General of 101st. Infantry Division together with cadre of officers and administrators is ensuing the proper working of his organization.
Demography and Population
Soldiers of 101st. Infantry Division are a very diverse group of people, hailing from nearly every sentient species living in Imperium. They are mostly recruited from Imperial Army, but you can also become part of it by joining Imperial Army's Auxilliary, applying directly, being noticed as an adventurer or somehow proving yourself useful during magical crises.
Candidates go through extremely ardurous tests of their willpower (including being exposed to Profane Magic to test how resistant are their minds to its sanity-rending effects). Their physical condition is mostly irrelevant – as long as you aren't crippled or suffering from some incurable disease, they will beat you to shape. What's really important is being able to resist mental and sanity attacks, and being sufficiently brave or zealous to be ready to work in such dangerous profession (religious zealotry is considered a plus during recrutation, though worshipped gods aren't really that important as long as they are accepted by Imperial Ministry of Religious Affairs.
Soldiers of 101st. Imperial Division when ending their service are rewarded with non-inheritable land estates, noticably bigger that those awarded to Imperial Army veterans. They remain theirs until their death or until their children become legal adults – unless one of them decides to apply for 101st., which is surprisingly rare considering the ammount of scary stories of this work they are told by their parent – but many of them end as Imperial Army soldiers nevertheless.
In case of soldier earlier discharge due to wounds (at least of lost limb level up) they receive similar estate under similar requirements. If he dies in service, widow and children receive such estate until the children come of age. If he had no children, widow receives dowry from Imperium 101st. Infantry Division.
