Session 1: Fledgling Magic Report
General Summary
Silas, Colter, Brian, and Akira meet in the City Above the Nexus, just outside of the Starspire, where a dark elf ambassador of the Acnar Assembly, Ickmel, awaits them, as well as his minotaur guide, Paul. After tiredly reading the necessary formailities required by the Assembly, Ickmel leads them towards the Staffmaster's home. Silas attempts to chat with the others, as well as their guide, to little avail besides Brian who chats a bit back.
Once at the Staffmaster's hut, Ickmel leads them down to his forge, where he awaits them in almost complete darkness. The Staffmaster sends Ickmel away, but allows Paul to stand guard in the corner while he gives each of the newcomers a personal and almost introspective comment along with their staff - a pan flute for Brian, a mask for colter, an armband for Akira, and...a turtle for Silas.
Upon receiving their staffs, the five head out, only to find a strange figure robed in black standing over the body of Ickmel. A few others join and a battle begins. Silas and Brian both freeze up while the rest jump into battle. However, it takes a turn after the most powerful of their magic users begins to transform into something dark and horrifying. Other cultists appear from the treeline, but its now that the Staffmaster appears and commands them all to close their eyes.
Colter, however, doesn't and sees a bright bright and strange hands grasping the creature, obliterating all the darkness from it. A piece of the energy holds onto him, which is taken away a moment later, along with his memory of the incident, by the Staffmaster. The rest of the cultists flee, leaving only bodies behind. The Staffmaster returns to his forge, commanding them to leave, just as another ambassador of the Assembly arrives to take them all to the headquarters.
They follow, and meet a half-elf assemblyman that offers them a job, implying that they were not allowed to refuse. After a tense moment in which Colter threatens the man, they all eventually agree, with Paul going along seemingly to watch over them. They're commanded to explore the outer areas of the Worlds for the Assembly, using a magic pendant to allow them to place magical "eyes" across the worlds to further their power and protection. Before heading out to their first destination, the Isles of Fire, they stop at an inn for the night, chatting softly over the bar. Akira and Colter immediately become close, as do Silas and Brian.
