Jade Swans

Jade swans1 is a name used for two closely related species of swans found in eastern Emlas and southwestern Laxilþía. The name refers to their bright green plumage.

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Jade swans are considered sacred by the people that share their territory, especially Pakrans in Laxilþía, who believe the gods created the birds from jade. While killing one is considered sacrilege by the pakrans, the feathers from dead swans are collected and used to certain religious instruments and ceremonial clothing.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Emlatine jade swans are found in and near major lakes and rivers in the Zamra Mountains and along the northwestern coast of Úrtal Sea, while laxilþían ones are common in the jungles of northwest Resak in southwestern Laxilþía, particularl the swampier southern and eastern part of the region and -to lesser extend- around Móþon Lake.

Body Tint, Colouring and Marking
Both species are easily recognized by their bright green plumage, at least on adults, as hatchlings have grey down and young swans have dull brown-green feathers. The main distinction between the two species is that the laxilþían one has reddish beak and legs, while the emlatine has black ones.
