The Greenshale Market is a outdoor market located in The Library district in New Carydam.

Purpose / Function

The Greenshale Market is the oldest commerce area in New Carydam, originating alongside the city itself. The Market itself focuses on produce, foodstuffs and artisan crafts and goods. It forms one of the main "arteries" of the "heart" of The Library district.    Open from the middle of the afternoon until early morning (often referred to as "3 'til 3"), the Market is always a bustling and boisterous affair.

History

Often known to Carydamians simply as "The Market," The Greenshale Market has been a presence in New Carydam since at least 830 AC. Over the subsequent years, it has transformed from a small, disorganized commerce area to a thriving, energetic market enterprise that takes up an entire city block.    While the major influential vendors in the Market has shifted from generation to generation, it is understood that leadership is currently split between two families--the Brightdoom and the Volmir--which are engaged in a destructive feud for reasons unknown.

Tourism

The community of sellers and merchants in Greenshale has grown along with the market itself, with many vendors holding the same stall for generations. As a result, the Market is a community unto itself, who protect their own interests and are often guarded with whom they deem to be "outsiders," which is anyone not "of the Market."   Many folk are drawn to The Market not only for the services and goods on offer, but also to take in the spectacle of the market itself. Dozens of entertainers (jugglers, jesters, and more) descend on the Greenshale during its hours of operation, hoping to earn their living through the generosity of patrons moving from stall to stall.
