Vastbloom

Vastbloom is a type of macroalgae found throughout The Vast, typically close to coastlines, atolls, and reefs.
The plant is prized for its sticky, bulbous pods. When harvesting, great care is taken to remove these pods intact. The remainder of the plant is usually left alone in the hope that it will grow more pods for future use.

History & Usage

History

Vastbloom predates the written histories of the Drembari Isles. Like many things in the Isles, it has simply always existed. 
Oral traditions dating back to the Unknown Era feature Vastbloom prominently, and those who were able to harvest and refine the plant were revered in their communities.

Everyday use

Vastbloom is often used in healing remedies. When properly deployed in poultices, ointments, and salves, it has been said to restore vigor, cure disease, even stave off the icy hand of Rhagtar. Some herbalists swear by its use as a tea or tincture.
More adventurous users ferment Vastbloom for consumption, either as pickled or as an alcoholic beverage.
A mutated form of Vastbloom is said to exist in the waters outside Huckle. The effects of that particular strain are unpredictable.

Cultural Significance and Usage

Because of its association with The Vast, Vastbloom is often used as a sacrament in rituals, particularly those honoring Otuna and Baena. 
Like obsidian and asakori oil, it is considered a major symbol of the Bari people.
