Winedark, Chapter Nineteen
General Summary
Wherein our heroes dress the part, undertake a calculated risk, and consider all the ways to make an impression
Unity in Uniform
If, as the note passed to q[Kharlo Chondricht] indicates, that the Vastblasters are bound for The Chalice, then they certainly need to seem like they belong in such a chic, cosmopolitan place. Because, according to Kharlo and Pitch, The Chalice is a casino island, where the rich and powerful come to gamble with coins and fates. Folks visiting The Chalice are not forthcoming in their speech about their business, so the Blasters will certainly need their clothes to do the talking. To that end, our adventurers returned to Seven Rows and sought out the services of a tailor in its upscale second floor. Luckily, a shop called Rimm's Smoking Jacket seemed like just the thing. Rimm, a dwarf highly skilled in transmutation magic, set them up with some fine uniforms. These outfits are unified by color (deep navy blue and old gold), if not by design. Each of the Blasters is looking mighty sharp:- Captain Pitch leaned into the role of command and got themselves outfitted with a regal navy-like uniform, fit for any formal occasion. It features dramatic old gold piping and rank insignia on the sleeves. There is also the matter of a captivating admiral's bicorne.
- Kasula Neristina also opted for a maritime vibe, but focused her attention more on swashbuckler's jacket, paired with a scarlet red shirt underneath. Truly, she is ready for whatever The Vast might throw at her.
- Irk, needing to be able to spread his wings and fly, decided to go for a fetching kilt and matching sash. Mobility and style. Perhaps Kogos would approve. A certain dragon most definitely would.
- Kharlo, wanting to give off the impression of an "anime bouncer," selected a wave-embroidered suitcoat that buttoned across the breast. He completed this outfit with a half-cape lined in old gold and some fashionable clamdiggers, because Kharlo must be true to himself, no matter the occasion.
- Water's sartorial choices remain their own. For now.
A Gamble
The location of The Chalice isn't provided to just anyone. Part of its appeal, after all, is its exclusivity. Fortunately, our explorers were able to persuade Rimm to part with the name of one of his clients that visit The Chalice frequently. That client, Shasmomeh Zustid, is, apparently, a renowned gambler who holds court at a tavern on Seven Rows called Cheap Dog. So, it was to the Cheap Dog and to this elusive gambler. Once there, our crew was kind of at a loss of what to do until Kasula took it upon herself to sit at the table and play a few hands of Bragaki Hold 'Em. Although Kasula was definitely a neophyte at the game, Shasmomeh admired her pluck and her daring and provided the location of The Chalice in one of the pots that Kasula won. Moreover, the next day found Shas the Shade (as she is sometimes known) showed up at the VastBlaster offering not only guidance to The Chalice, but also information on the whole "deal" of this casino and what our crew might expect. Helpful! Now, all that remained was to actually arrive at this heralded place. In the Cup of the Chalice
Standing in the way of that arrival was the fickleness of The Vast, which was articulated in this instance by a quartet of angry Sahuagin Champions. A fight commenced with the Blasters emerging victorious (but not without Kasula suffering the ill effects of getting knocked the fuck out). So many deadly things in these waters. Dressed in their newly acquired finery, the Blasters landed at the Chalice and took one of the many automated water taxis to the lauded casino. Once there, it was clear that the reputation of The Chalice as chic and cosmopolitan was well earned. Now, all they've got to do is find Nixif Sipplegonz, acquire the key, and get out without losing either said key or their lives. Simple, right? And That's Where We Left It
We'll see how the Blasters go about that simple task during our next session.Various & Sundry Details
