Winedark, Chapter Twenty-Nine
General Summary
Wherein the Blasters find the fate of the Flagon, head to a more hospitable climate, and witness the rising of the Moon of Change
The Wreck of the Flagon
Having ridden the anchor of the VastBlaster down to the ocean floor in glory, the Vastblasters decided to carefully approach the wreck of the Half-Drunk Flagon. The reasoning behind this is that they could see some of the Flagon's erstwhile sailors and they did not look well at all. In addition to being clearly dead (and yet, not dead), Water and Burdin identified these poor creatures as suffering from "Blackspine," a nasty, highly contagious disease that saps the life force of the afflicted. Nevertheless, these individuals were once Bari, so it was deemed appropriate to try and talk with them. Luckily, Captain Pitch has an Oceanic Soul that enables them to do just that. A brief conversation was had with the most cognizant of the sailors, one Terth Hazesworn. He mentioned that they were bound here to protect an item--surely part of the instrument--and are in service to someone or something called Zakrew. Zakrew is a Yellik, but nobody seemed to know what that was. That's probably fine. Terth introduced them to the Flagon's Captain, Stikk Gloomtooth, who appeared heavily changed from their previous encounters at the start of Otuna's Favor. Stikk is fully in thrall to Zakrew and will brook no notion of abandoning his guardianship of whatever item awaits here. Terth, in more control of his faculties, persuaded his fellow sailors that maybe they did not need to follow their captain anymore. All out mutiny ensued, and combat ensued with it. The Blasters joined the side of Terth and seemingly had the upper hand against the lone Stikk. But then Zakrew emerged from The Vast floor, and it turns out that "Yellik" means sea serpent. Uh oh! As it often happens, the Blasters won the day and released the tormented Flagon sailors to their final rest. Unfortunately, Kharlo Chondricht and Burdin came down with cases of the dreaded Blackspine. Neither one was diseased for long, however, because they are heroes and this is not where their story ends. The remains of the Flagon contained a highly prized object--the fore shaft of Instrument. This deadly weapon surely is nearly assembled by now.Bragaki
It was determined that it would be most prudent to chase down the other lead offered to the Blasters by proceeding directly to Bragaki as opposed to stopping by Awa and delivering the fore shaft to Loshi Saltbloom and the awaiting populace. It was thankfully smooth sailing to Torokawa, Bragaki's capital, and their reputation and fame here were well known. The other ship, The Bountiful Harvest, having perhaps heard of the true nature of the Favor, abandoned whatever it was they were working on and headed back to Awa Harbor. Bummer! At least the harbormaster, Athrovra Fernglory, is letting them anchor here for free. A quick trip to The Sour Stream (which featured a literal stream running through the tavern) offered more insight. Faybyn Mosswater, sibling of the acclaimed Marvon and Second Waterspeaker of Bragaki, filled in some details. Whatever the Harvest was after is in the Itsthuemsel Ruins. She offered an escort to said ruins, but could not offer more than that. So, with that escort and with the well-wishes of Mosswater, the Blasters took themselves over to the other island of Bragaki, Rortogi, and sailed down the inlet towards the Ruins.Gnet Rises
As they sailed, the night brought a massive change. The fabled Gnet rose and, with it, rose change. Our heroes didn't have a whole heck of a lot of time to think about that because their campsite was assailed by giant apes. These creatures were quickly dispatched, but our adventurers remained perplexed and anxious as to what change this moon may herald. And That's Where We Left it
We'll see how the Blasters navigate the Ruins during our next session.Various & Sundry Details
