Gaya Maahes

Created by

In the beginning there was Moriden, Goddess of Creation. Alone she sat in her tower of Ivory and Gold. For centuries she sat on her throne, till one day the loneliness become unbearable. From this pain of solitude, she wept, and from those tears the universe was born. The first drop created the Material Plane, a world called Gaya Maahes. It was lush with vast lands and deep oceans, but it was empty. While beasts of the land, sea, and sky roamed, there were none in it to truly bask in its beauty. Moriden drew a knife, and with it pricked the end of her finger. This blood dripped from her finger and fell upon the land. From this drop, six races were born.   Humans, resilient and determined, took root fast and expanded their lands to explore the world. Dwarfs, hardy and gruff, dug into the mountains and explored the caves in search of gems and ore to craft mighty weapons and armor to protect their people. Dragonborn, prideful and stoic, built wonderous cities and lead their people through justice and integrity. Elves, wise and noble, spread about the world to learn of its unknowns and understand the secrets of the world they call home. Goliaths, brutal and patient, lived among the mountains and perfected the arts of survival and battle. Finally, the Orsimer; Half-Orcs, fierce and loyal, bridged the gap between man and monster and through their unique birth allowed for the humanoid races and the monstrous races to unite and opened new worlds to both clans.   The world was beautiful and full, but it would not stay this way forever. From every act of creation there is an act of destruction. From the shadows of Moriden’s creation, Abaddon was born. Abaddon, the new God od Destruction, loved Moriden, almost to the point of obsession. He crushed lands and shook the seas in an effort to show his love the beauty of his power, but Moriden was only enamored by her beautiful children she created. Abaddon became jealous, and from this dark jealousy a plan was hatched. From his own blood, he created the Devils, and through them he set out to corrupt her children. This; however, failed, as the children of Gaya Maahes, flawed as they were, fought back darkness wherever it rose. Abaddon became consumed by his rage, and through it, he sought out a final resort. The Demons of the underworld, brought about as refuse of the evil and corruption of the Devils and darkness in the hearts of all men, were sought out. Abaddon searched out their leader and king, the Dagon Ignatious. His brutality and cruelty were unrivaled, and this was exactly what Abaddon wanted. He offered him a deal, if he destroyed all the men of the Material Plane, he would allow them to call it their home and give them a plane of existence to call their own. The Dagon took the offer, and with some help from the Devils, corrupted the hearts of some very powerful mages and through them broke through the planar walls that separated the Material Plane from the Demons.   The cities of all the races fell quickly, as they were wholly unprepared for this incursion. Seeing this, Moriden wept furiously, her tears streaming harder than they had before. Her precious children, for whom this world was built for, were now being massacred in mass. However, all was not lost. Nature is a frightful and benevolent being, and from this massacre, a new God was born. Melora, Goddess of Nature, emerged from the wreckage. Through her power, she bestowed a gift. Each race selected a champion, a person of both integrity and strength, and Melora gifted them with the power of the Gods. These six champions were known as the First Sages, and combined they were able to push back the Demons and seal them away.   Melora then ascended to the Heavens, but not before bestowing her own boon upon a seventh sage. This person was not bound by race, but by integrity of soul. Should balance be upset again, she would call upon a new sage to seek out and unite the races to fight back. Melora then took her place among the two gods and through her guidance, she maintained balance between the two great powers.   Peace reigned for some time, but the Demons did not relent. Every 1,000 years or so, the Demons try again and again to break free, but every time the Sages were able to repel and seal them. Now, the world has once again found balance, and from this peace, The Adventurers Guild was born. Through their influence and guidance, they aid the world in various ways, from slaying monsters to guiding kings.    Now it is your turn adventurer. The world is open to you, of gods and men, of monster and myth. What choices will you make? Whose side will you join? What mystery will you uncover? All of this is up to you, for only you can answer those questions.
