Fenris

The Deceiver

Fenris, also known as The Deceiver, the Corruptor, and the Maimed Lord, is a powerful, Drow-born archlich who achieved godhood by usurping and destroying Vecna. Fenris was a once-drow adventurer and that was corrupted by the Ring and Book of Vile Darkness, he corrupted a trusted ally and turned on his brothers and sisters in the Company of the Broken Soliloquy. Before his turn to Lichdom Fenris sought to save his beloved Lilah, but as he began his path of evil be all but forgot of Lilah and left his love to her death at the hands of Spider Queen Lolth.   Fenris used his powers to rain down destruction throughout Geldora, his powers grew stronger and stronger, Vecna called him upon Fenris to complete the ritual and return Vecna to the material plane. Fenris laid siege to city after city raising an ever growing army of the undead, gaining more souls to use for the portal to return Vecna. As his power was at his pinnacle he began the ritual to bring Vecna to the material plane but in the last moment his thirst for power turned against Vecna and instead Fenris permanently imprisoned Vecna in a pocket dimension then wished that the pocket dimension was permanently destroyed, killing Vecna once and for all.   Fenris embolden by this sought ascend to godhood and to turn the Prime Material Plane into the Plane of the Undead. Flufendrel who had always walked a fine line between good and evil decided that he had no option but to stop Fenris's evil plot. As Flufendrel had derived his powers from a pact with a fiend, this would even prove even more difficult. On the Plains of Desolation Flufendrel confronted Fenris as he was completing his ascension ritual for godhood. Just as Fenris completed the last prayer, Flufendrel broke free of his fiendish pact and used the Ritual of Isolation, forcing Fenris's divine form out of the Prime Material Plane to the Domain of Dread.
“Evil is not an absence of good. It is not a choice...Evil is one of two forces in the cosmos, an agency locked in eternal struggle against its antithesis...Only good and evil exist. And not even a hair's width of space separates them.” — Fenris.

Arcana, Death, Knowledge, and Deceit.

Artifacts

Fenris possesses two powerful artifacts in the multiverse that drew their power from Vecna’s undead body: Vecna’s eye and left hand. Fenris sought these artifacts, accessing their power required vicious acts of self-mutilation, where he gouged out left eye and cut off his left hand and replaced them both with Vecna’s giving him incredible power. Fenris also carries the Book of Vile Darkness.

Holy Books & Codes

Fenris possess one of the six copies of the Book of Vile Darkness. The original from Vecna, a deity from Oerth, was a book with a cover made from flesh from a human face and bones from a demon. The latter was made into the book's metal binding via magic. It had—at least for normal people—unintelligible symbols on the cover.

Divine Symbols & Sigils

Fenris's holy symbol is an eye in the palm of a left hand.

Tenets of Faith

Commandments of the Deceiver

  • Learn all you can, and keep hidden that which you know. Reveal what pieces you must, but never the whole.
  • Express and cultivate the evil within yourself, and in doing so, recognize it in others to exploit them for your own benefit.
  • Seed the ruin of all who worship other deities, until only those who kneel before the Deceiver remain.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

When Fenris was first reborn, he appeared as a gaunt husk of a drow wearing long tattered red, purple, and black robes. His skin was weathered and decayed, pulled taut against his skeletal frame, he has long flowing gray hair. His skin rotted away leaving his skeletal face with his teeth in a terrible grin. His left hand is that of Vecna's, as is his left eye. Both his hand and eye has a constant streaming sickly green magical energy that emanates upwards.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

Fenris has become obsessed with acquiring and maintaining secrets, believing them to be the source of true power. He was precise and calculating in his actions, but is at times prone to bouts of intense rage.  Fenris believes that every being in existence hold a single secret that could be manipulated to bring about its destruction. Uncovering that secret and exploiting its truth were the key to gaining dominion over others.

Social

Reign

As a deity, Fenris did not claim a domain, but instead wandered the entire multiverse. He maintained the Citadel of Liluth, originally on the Quasi-Elemental Plane of Ash near the border to the Negative Energy plane, which he had wrested away from the Doomguard long before. The Citadel was used by Fenris as his fortress, which he visited regularly, to gloat on the despair of his defeated enemies. Later, it became his prison as it was drawn into the Domains of Dread when he was banished by Gaddir.

Social Aptitude

Fenris was arrogant, egotistical, and ambitious. From the beginning of his attempted ascension he maintained a confident and condescending veneer, believing he had already won. Fenris treated those beneath him as insignificant mortals or pests too unimportant to worry about. Despite this, he proved he could be cold, calculating and ruthless when it suited him, able to manipulate people's greatest fears to his own benefit and enjoy it. He sought to "play with the toys" left by other gods beyond the Divine Gate and reshape the world, his Geldora, to his liking.

Quotes & Catchphrases
"I am Fenris the Unholy. I am god upon Gerldora. I come to play with the toys left by insolent, forgotten ancients and make this world into a new epoch. What this means, however, is an end to all. An end to borders and nations. There will only be the will of Fenris. So ask yourselves. You want peace? There is no peace, the way things are. You all bicker and stab and murder in the names of your mothers, your fathers. But this one? Everyone will live, and when they die, that need not be the end, either, under my banner."
