Gargauth, originally known as Gargoth and sometimes called Astaroth or Gormauth Souldrinker, is a former archdevil and demigod of betrayal and political corruption. Wandering the Material Realm after being cast from Hell for reasons unknown, the utterly depraved devil was dedicated to infecting the Realms with his own brand of corruption and cruelty. An incarnation of evil most rotten, Gargauth embodies the inevitable moral decay that follows both the victories won by evil means, and the selfish, greedy, and ambitious entities (both leaders and groups) that achieved them.
