Toblem Stonehill

Owner of the Stonehill Inn

A short, friendly young human male and the proprietor of the Stonehill Inn. Toblen is a native of the capital to the east. He came to Bar Lorad as a prospector, but soon realized that he knew a lot more about running an inn than he did about mining. This “new” town offered a good opportunity to become established.   When the party enters, the innkeeper Toblen Stonehill is outwardly relieved that they are not Redbrands and if pressed about the matter, mentions that the Gentlehands are a group of mercenaries that have taken up residence in town.   Toblen Stonehill is upset that the Gentlehands have been allowed to terrorize the town, and that Harbin Wester, the town Elder, has done nothing to curtail them. However, he tries not to stir up trouble for fear that the Gentlehands might retaliate against his family.   Trilena Stonehill, Toblen's wife, adds that Thel Dendrar, the local woodcarver, stood up to the Gentlehands a tenday ago when they came by his shop and leered at his wife. The ruffians then murdered him, grabbed his body, and now his wife, daughter, and son have gone missing.   The gossipy barmaid, Elsa, notices the party, and as she delivers drinks to a miner customer, mentions that they remind her of a retired adventurer that lives in town, Daran Edermath.   The miner customer is Lanar. When Elsa mentions it, he says, "Good, maybe they can run those orcs off the mining trail so I can get back to work. The town Elder might even actually pay for the deed."   Elsa then delivers drinks to Narth, an old farmer and asks him how his old wound his faring and if he's had a chance to visit the Shrine of Luck. Narth responds that he did, but Sister Garaele was too exhausted to look at it and said to come back another time.   Elsa wishes the elderly farmer luck with his wound and then delivers her last drink to a lady sitting in the corner knitting a blanket. "Hello Freda, that looks pretty," she says. Freda scoffs then mentions that a couple Gentlehands came to her shop demanding more blankets. "I don't make blankets! It seems they're insisting more and more from every store, harassing everyone - except the Miner's Exchange. Nobody seems to want trouble with Halia Thornton."   Finally, the inkeeper's young son Pip can be seen playing around the common room. He is ducking under the tables and chairs, pretending to sneak around and bumping into the party. If asked what he's up to he mentions that his friend Carp found a secret tunnel in the woods but the Gentlehands almost caught him. If asked who Carp is, they are told he is Qelline Alderleaf's son. The Alderleafs have a farm on the southern part of town.
